Here's my Asus GTX 570, it's big, it takes up 3 slots ! I have an Antec 300 case which is a mini ATX, it's less than 10mm away from the rails that support the HDDs. Above that on the MB is a Core 2 Duo E8400 with an Arctic Freezer Pro 7 over clocked to 3.8Ghz. I would like to upgrade to a Quad core but i'll see how BF3 runs first.

Wow BTTF, that GPU is a 'beast', quality power supply too. Spartan is right about the 'bottleneck'. Upgrading the CPU 'unleashed' my GTX 560Ti. It is all about what you can afford, unfortunately. Cool case by the way Spartan. Looks like a Zalman sat in there.

yep wobblyone, that CPU cooler is the mighty Zalman CNPS9900ALED, its a 120mm 100% copper cpu cooler that also is using Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound. Neat thing is I can put it on my next motherboard and the new AM3+ processors since they use the same design, I love AMD for that.

Sorry spartan my error, it is an ATX but the case is smaller than the rest of the range. Nice gear but would probably go down the intel route if I do commit. Don't really want to spend the money unless necessary. Socket 775 quad CPUs are still expensive when compared to i5/7s which is frustrating. Considering the eBay route just a bit risky though.

well for intel there are a few, it all depends, with Intel you really have to research your stuff because they change sockets so often and rarely one socket works with another unlike AMD

I think when you upgrade just make sure you're good for 2/3 yrs. Be it Intel/AMD all our gear will be in the museum by then anyway ! If we can run BF3 now ( and it is good enough ) then most of us should survive that time. I played BF2 for 3 yrs, and ( hope ) to do the same with BF3. The only contender IMO is Arma3 due next year................FCUK !!!

Agreed. I upgraded 3 1/2 years ago but my 8800 GT failed at 13 months and replaced it under Asus 3 year warranty to a 275 GTX which has got through to BF3. So if I can get away with just a card change that would be great.

the BIGGEST key is the MOTHERBOARD, NEVER NEVER NEVER skimp on the MOTHERBOARD. With a extremely high quality motherboard you can go SLi/CrossFire, have more CPU support (especially with an AMD CPU as they rarely PHYSICALLY change sockets) as well as RAM Speed and quantity. All 3 motherboards I have shown above should easily last you 2-3 years and 2/3 have a 3 year warranty while the ASUS Sabertooth has a 5 year warranty.

Hey I live in a country filled with idiots (quite seriously), you would be surprised at some of the questions I get from people.
