From EA Games press; EA ROLLS OUT THREE THEMED EXPANSION PACKS FOR MULTI-PLATINUM BATTLEFIELD 3 As Fans Continue to Devour the First Expansion Pack, Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand, DICE Announces Three New Packs that Expand the Smash Hit with New Modes, Maps and Weapons Guildford, UK. – March 7, 2012 – The Battlefield™ army is over 12 Million strong and growing every day as Battlefield 3™ and its first expansion, Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand continues to recruit gamers around the world with its dynamic sandbox gameplay and state-of-the-art technology. Today, DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) studio, demonstrates its ongoing commitment to fans by unveiling three new themed digital expansion packs* that will enhance the superior Battlefield experience with fresh and innovative gameplay, new modes, unique environments and more ways to wage all-out-war on the battlefield. Powered by the Frostbite™ 2 engine, the next expansion packs are: Battlefield 3: Close Quarters in June, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill in the fall, and Battlefield 3: End Game in the winter. · Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game. · Battlefield 3: Armored Kill– Following the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefield history. · Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded. · Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand –Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is available now for download for £11.99 or 1200 Microsoft points and features four of the most beloved Battlefield 2™ maps (Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island and Sharqi Peninsula), all fully re-imagined utilizing the power of the Frostbite 2 engine. Patrick Bach, Executive Producer, Battlefield 3 said, “Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we’re giving players a completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep the action fresh. Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic and unpredictable every time.†Battlefield 3 is supported by a robust, and completely free social platform called Battlelog that invites players to compete, communicate and play with friends. Gamers track personal stats, compare against other players and join a platoon in an effort to dominate the battlefield. To add to the competitive fervor, a fully integrated rent-a-server program for console players will be available for gamers to play online with friends the way they want to play in either private, public, ranked or unranked matches. For more information about these enhancements and future plans for Battlelog, please visit www.battlefield.com. Since its launch on Oct. 28th, Battlefield 3 has quickly become the fastest selling title in EA’s 20+ year history selling more than 12 Million units since release. Lauded by game critics worldwide for its compelling single player campaign, intense co-op missions and its addictive and world class multiplayer, Battlefield 3 has won more than 120 awards including IGN.com’s “Best Multiplayer Game of 2011.†Battlefield 3 is available now in North America and Europe for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment and PC. Caspian Border lovers look away now ...…

After reading that an expansion pack called "Close Quarters" is indeed in development, I was ready to say this is the end for the Battlefield series. But then I read about "Armored kill", which sounds it could be good. It even has the biggest map in the entire series, just like Caspian Border (or was it Op Firetstorm?) was before it. And who knows what will "End Game" contain?
This is an interesting tactic to see what do players really want, close quarters combat or vehicle warfare. They can easily see it from the sales figures once they release the expansion packs. And then they can say "According to telemetry, close quarters combat/vehicle combat is more liked by the fans. And then they can continue with that line, be it CQB or vehicle combat.
But what will happen? Will the masses buy the CQB pack or are there enough sane people that want vehicle combat? Seriously, if you want infantry combat, I can give you dozens of names right now: Call of Duty (the devil itself, not really because of what it is, but what everyone else tries to be), Medal of Honor, Counter-Strike, Blacklight, Crysis 2, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (and soon R6: Patriots), Ghost Recon: Future Soldier... But what about vehicle combat? We don't have much choice for that: just Battlefield, ArmA, Homefront, Halo, Killzone, and that's basically it. Two of them are console titles and one of them is a hardcore simulator. The market is full of multiplayer games with tight infantry combat.
If people buy the Close Quarters expansion pack enough, we can say goodbye to the Battlefield series. Therefore I propose that no one in the clan buys that expansion pack, and instead buys Armored Kill or neither of the expansions. I bet that End Game will be an infantry-focused expansion if CQ gets more sales and vehicle-focused if Armored Kill gets more sales. But if the infantry-focused shoebox-sized maps get more sales, it isn't hard to imagine BF4 will head. Soon we won't have any vehicles, and the maps are as small as in CoD. But the question is, do you want that? If you buy the CQB pack, you gotta ask yourself one question: do I feel lucky? Well do ya, punk?
The CQB map in the video backtothefight sent looks like it could be in Call of Duty. It's maybe a tiny bit bigger, but not much. Is this what Battlefield is played for? Tight infantry-focused maps? Or big maps with vehicles? Last time I checked, infantry-focused in BF meant something like Strike at Karkand. Despite most of the servers being IO, despite the grenade rain, it wasn't a half bad map. You could even flank from multiple directions. Left, right, even from above in the docks in the North-East corner of the map. But now the masses want constant action, constant points, constant explosions, constant kills, no time to breathe, no sense, they don't want to use their brains one bit.
too long, didn't read-version: if you buy the Close Quarters expansion pack you can only blame yourself for the destruction of the Battlefield franchsize. So buy Armored Kill and show DICE and EA what do we want from a Battlefield game!

Caspian Border lovers look away now ... That was painful to watch. Call of Duty anyone? Looks like the single player campaign map is being opened up for multiplayer gameplay. Kaffarov is the eleventh mission in Battlefield 3's single-player campaign,

Some interesting results so far in the vote on the Dice website.....
" There is lots of content and fixes coming up for Battlefield 3! Which are you most excited about?
Battlefield 3: Armored Kill in the fall (38%, 3,186 Votes) The upcoming game update this spring (33%, 2,759 Votes) Battlefield 3: Close Quarters in June (15%, 1,250 Votes) Battlefield 3: End Game in the winter (7%, 602 Votes) The upcoming rent-a-server program on console (7%, 587 Votes) Total Voters: 8,385 "
… I was surprised to see such little interest in the CQ map pack. Maybe the CoD players are slowly leaving. I hope the EA marketing weasels get to see this info.

EA really fucked dice over on dlc's this time But to be perfectly honest, I think I will still get Close Quarters. BF3 is getting really stale at the moment. Everymap has been played over and over again, its almost to the point where its boring unless you have alot of friends playing. I personally do not think i can sit and wait out until Armored Kill, its just way to long...
DICE is releasing Close Quarters to rival against MW#'s new mappack (which really sucks and u can see how bad it sucks by listening to the developers talk about it- pretty much clusterfuck in middle and snipers on outside). Compared to MW#'s map pack, Close Quarters is much better as it pretty much IS MW3, but with destructible environment. Its aim is to have MW3 players play BF3 on consoles, NOT ON PC. Map sizes are tiny as hell and only support a smaller number of players. DICE releases a crappy DLC so during summer, it would be able to shove out its flagship Armored Kill and try to win more people to buy BF3. Thats their ideology and from their standpoint, its worth it. For me BF4 is a game that wont come out for another 2-3 years, and I'll complain and groan then.
