Yes i think they should be allowed but not over used. They would be extremly helpfull when making a joke for instance if you could put a wink so all cultures know it is a joke. Our humor is all diffrent and i think it could help to prevent offence. A smile at the end of every sentence could get very annoying though

I think that they are necesary to set the tone of what you write (in certain situations) like Rob said. I enjoy there not being spammed animations throughout posts, but I feel we are all mature enough to use them, and if someone isn't, they can be delt with accordingly.
