As the challenge to acquire badges has increased in the last several weeks, some badges have proven more difficult to attain than others. Check out the these stories which resulted in the Helicopter spartanwf.proboards52.com/index.c....splay&thread=56 and Aviation spartanwf.proboards52.com/index.c....play&thread=253 Basic Badges. I set out to attain tha Basic Knife Badge on several occasions only to suffer unacceptable losses, get discouraged, and revert back to standard long-gun fighting. the close-in fight can be very challenging.
At the on-set of the match on the U.S. team on the Strike at Karkan map, I ran to gain a quick flank or rear attack position. Running with the rifle in-hand to close the distance, the first attempt ended in a quick death. "Okay, let's try the other flank." "Alright, now we are talking." An enemy sniper lay in the prone behind his rifle scope fixated on knocking down targets. "Finally!!" I transitioned to knife, dropped to the prone, and delivered a quick jab with the knife. "One down."
Nearby, one more sniper, this time in the standing position. He was also pinned to the back of his scope and was making gentle side-to-side movements to avoid incoming sniper rounds. "AHHHH (jab)!! That's another sniper down." Detection by the enemy was inevitable. An additional enemy sniper moved to revenge the recent kill and rid their position of foreign fighters. I got lucky and drove my handy knife deep into yet another adversary. My luck ran out and I was taken out by others who had identified my presence.
"That flank worked. Let's try the exact same thing again." It went great. I quickly found myself in the middle of a whole bunch of bad guys. "Oh, no! I've got to get out of here." I ran toward friendly lines. Ran around the corner of a building, drew my knife, and hot on my tail were a number of opponents. The swinging began. The first guy went dwon, the second guy bounced-off, and the third went down. "It was crazy!" there were bodies everywhere. The fourth guy rounded the corner. Down I went from a burst of machine gun fire from the number two guy about egith feet to my left as he shot well-aimed fire from the prone.
If only the number two guy had gone down from a knife hit, I would have had the spectacular story of taking down four enemy with a knife in about 7 seconds. Either way, the adrenaline was pumping and a good fight was had by all. Over the course of the game, I was able to gain the other two knife kills needed plus a couple more. At last, the elusive Basic Knife badge was mine.
At one point, our U.S. team was reduced to one flag in the city and I knew they would be coming. I set up behind a stack of boxes in a narrow alley, drew the knife, and waited for my prey. It was only a matter of time as this was one of a few main routes to the flag. "Ah, ha." He ran by focused on getting to the flag. I ran up behind him and struck the death blow. I was, actually, lucky there weren't two or three others right behind him. I would likely have never even gotten close to him, if he had other friendly's close-by. For others who are still in need of their Basic Knife Badge, HAPPY HUNTING!!
