I have heard verbally from Spartan and Iwazzio in detail. Brief discussion with Phoenix. Let's put out thoughts in the written form.

I'm not impressed, but I was not fond of BF3 either and this seems to be BF3 with a few new features. The graphics and sound are state of the art but my issues are with the game play. I've grown accustomed to large maps like in BF2 and the Arma series so these maps seem claustrophobic and limiting to me. Combat is almost non-stop so team tactics are reduced to chatter like "heading to A" and "tank at B". Its not uncommon to die and respawn every couple of minutes so there's no tension built in. The motivation to be tactical and move cautiously is removed because there's no penalty for being killed. Run, jump and spray. You just respawn with full kit right back at the action. I can't see spending much time with it and I probably won't buy it.

I'm with you Guirk, to say I'm not impressed would be an understatement. For me its too COD like with the MOH war fighter thrown in. I appreciate it was only a beta but for me it was more of a demo. How can you release a public beta in the same month its due for full release, not only that, how can you only release it to owners of 64 bit pc's and alienate other pc users? Too many things unbalanced at the moment, hence why I think what we saw in the beta is going to be very different from the final release. I do think though, that with your 5 man squad, you will be able to cause some damage if you work as a team. This is even more so in the obliteration mode, so you can do some good. I think the game promises a lot but as of yet it has delivered very little.
I'm actually in two minds whether to cancel the pre-order or not. I'm leaning more on the cancel side of things at the moment.

I really enjoyed BF3 and I think BF4 will be more of the same. (which is good) However After playing Planetside2 (which is the direction I think BF should have gone) I doubt I will be buying BF4 at all. Despite the superior looks and sound of BF4, I will be staying with PS2 for a while yet.

I guess it's all subjective, ArmA/DayZ players won't like this, BF3 players will.
I know it's in beta but like Aus says just how much will they be able to change in less than 2 weeks ?
I haven't played bf3 in over ten months but I'm sure the tanks and weapons 'felt' better than this. I thought the map all look a bit grey and interiors a bit plain, maybe more detail will be added.
Good to see 5 man squads and lines to the way point on the mini map. Commander back ! .....to what extent is yet to be seen.
I enjoyed BF3 and can remember being excited about its release after playing the beta, but it didn't make me feel like that. I'm sure it will all look great but I won't be preordering and I don't think I'll be buying it unless there is significant interest within the clan.
I will probably be putting the £45 towards a years PS2 membership.

Auscam: these days demos like this are called betas, while betas are called pre-alphas. Or that's how I get it.
I played a little bit on the Xbox. The map seemed to be more detailed than in BF3 (which I haven't played much), but still not very big. The controls had changed a bit. Previously, you would switch stances by clicking or holding the right thumbstick. That's also the thumbstick used for aiming, and 99% of the time have your finger on it while playing. This way it was very easy to get down behind cover. BF1943, BF:BC2 and BF3 had this as the default setting. CoD and BF4 have knifing on the right thumbstick. I don't think knifing is used as much as crouching.
Speaking of knife attacks, you can counter them if you're quick enough. Unfortunately DICE didn't think it'd be useful to be able to counter a counter-attacks, and I'm not going to even mention countering counter-counterknife-attacks. Having an epic knife duel in the middle of the Battlefield(tm) starting at the beginning of the match and continuing until the very end would have been awesome. Maybe in BF5...
I don't know about much else. Having not played on a console for months I had troubles hitting anyone, so I can't really comment on the TTK (time to kill) which some on the Mordor forums say was way too high... Or was it too low? I think it was cool how the environment had a bit of interactivity on it, like bringing up tank barriers or using an elevator. Nothing too radical, and I'm pretty sure BF2: SF had elevators as well.
I'm not pre-ordering BF(insert next BF sequel number). DICE has lied before and will do it again. I don't think I'll buy it even after it's released. One thing is Origin (I don't want to install it just for one game) and the main reason is gameplay. Tactics, teamplay, fun, all seem to be gone. Arma 3 and/or Day Z standalone have a much higher chance of getting bought and enjoyed by me.

Think am the odd one out. I did enjoy it . Although am not sure how long it will keep my attention. The swimming graphics are great, however could be improved in other areas. Bigger squads and in game chat works well. I have pre ordered from amazon as it seemed a lot cheaper than online. Looks like I need some friends to play with

I'm undecided, I did have fun on both bf3 and bets as it's nice to get into to a game and not have to worry about getting killed unlike dayz. I agree the graphics looked worse than BF3 on beta but they did say it's been dulled down on beta on purpose. I look forward to seeing commander role. But I won't pre order I'll wait to see other peoples opinions of the game when released and make my final decision.

I'm pretty much with Mcguirk. I've only played it once and for only a very short time but it is too much like BF3. I know there will be a lot of kids playing it and hackers just like on BF3. I like the old style like BF2 where you had tactics and had to think about what you and your squad were going to do. I probably won't buy it but you never know, I might change my mind if the rest of SWF goes for it.

I like the old style like BF2 where you had tactics and had to think about what you and your squad were going to do. This is Planetside2 guys!!!! COME ON I've gotta listen to a bit of Jenny 'The hot violinist' to calm down! Everything we ever wanted for Battlefield is in Planetside2. It is complex like Arma, but not hectic like BF3/BF4. Give it a shot

I understand your frustration Wobbly. I would love to have a game emerge that the whole clan enjoyed together. Just like the old days with BF2. To be completely honest, its not the game play in PS2 that I have an issue with its more the Sci-Fi genre that I don't like. That's just my personal preference. I miss having a big group together on one game, just like you do. Now, I'm back to youtube for some more Jenny.

Yeah although I enjoyed the few games I've played on planet side, I have never been hooked. As McGuirk said the space theme puts me off slightly. Those of us in the clan who have played so much arma/ dayZ which involves lots of tactics and patience that planet side can't compete with and the rest who have gone the planet side route to have more constant action. Until a game is release that covers the middle ground I think we will struggle to get constant battles with all of us. But I am more than happy to do a mixture of events playing planet side 2, arma2/3 and maybe a war thunder battle?

Good - Functioning VoIP (At Beta, could change for release) - Functioning VoIP between matches - Line on the mini-map to the Squad Leader (SL) designated objective - Spectate feature (Unobserved) - Return of the Commander position promised (DICE Lies. So, it may or not be present at release) - Functioning elevators - Underwater swimming - Fire pistol while in the water
Bad - The single map used was the BF2 Wake Island map with buildings on it - Aircraft are still Over Powered (OP) - Kit selection was not persistent with a new match. The Assault kit was the default. - Scope glint - Sparks from engineer repair tool - Tank vehicle physics. The tank still drives on ice; although to a lesser degree - Tank main gun round little to no splash damage - Tank primary and secondary weapons have to be toggled rather than left and right mouse buttons - Tank first shot and more hits by me resulted in the other guy getting the kill (uncertain as to why. Likely some kind of perk) - The gameplay is designed for infantry dominance to appeal to COD crowd - Boat 20mm gun does little to no damage to enemy helicopters
Unclear - 3d spotting as default - Spawn on any squad member as default - Everyone is a super soldier with eventually any kit load out you want regardless of class/kit - Anti-Aircraft features ?? - Squad Leaders can talk to each other ??
Overall - Same offensive COD-clone game. Fun Factor: Not Present.
Pre-order - Absolutely NOT
