Today (10/2/2013) we remember an honorary Spartan Tom Clancy, an American author who has literally changed lives and inspired hundreds of thousands if not millions of people to join the armed forces. Tom Clancy is also well known in the video game industry with some of the best hits being Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, amongst other award winning titles. In fact UbiSoft owes its success to RedStorm entertainment and Tom Clancy due to immense success that was Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. Many Spartans here have played at least 2-3 Tom Clancy games and likely some of us (myself included) have read some of his books. Today we have lost an Honorary Spartan, and one of the best Military Authors to have ever lived, rest in peace Tom Clancy, & carry on!

What a shame to die so young. I've only read Rainbow Six and one other book by Tom Clancy (I do have "Clear and Present Danger" in my bookshelf waiting to be read) but the games he helped make are some of my favourites. Rainbow Six pretty much started the whole tactical shooter genre, Ghost Recon is still a great game, and, of course, the first Splinter Cell games are just awesome. Sadly all the Tom Clancy game franchises have changed to have a much smaller emphasis on tactics or realism. Even thinking that you could run around shooting people left and right in Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell used to be an insane idea.
If I like Clear and Present Danger enough, I'll probably start reading more of his books.

Tom Clancy died on October 1, 2013, at age 66 after a brief illness at Johns Hopkins Hospital, near his Baltimore, Maryland home. Books, video games, and movies. The Patriot Games movie was very good. The Clear and Present Danger movie was not as good, but still entertaining. There were many other movies and books produced under the Tom Clancy label. www.imdb.com/name/nm0002007/?ref_=sr_1I read Red Storm Rising, read part of Clear and Present Danger, and my ODA (Operational Detachment Alpha) was featured in Special Forces: A Guided Tour of U.S. Army Special Forces. The book was written by John Gresham under the Tom Clancy label. www.amazon.com/gp/product/0425172686?ie=UTF8&tag=sparwarfigh-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0425172686Tom Clancy was an ally to the U.S. Department of Defense and the military profession. Tom Clancy, you will be missed. USA Today - www.usatoday.com/story/life/books/2013/10/02/author-tom-clancy-dies-at-66/2907629/Tom's site - www.tomclancy.com/Wiki - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Clancy
