I am going to have to take a break with DayZ Epoch. The Epoch zombies have taken the fun out of DayZ. I may have to leave Epoch all together..
It has become unpleasant to harvest loot, conduct fire fights PvP, and conduct firefights with NPC/AI squads due to the overpowered zombies. The zombies:
- detect you from too far away
- cause a group of about five zombies to aggro if one is chasing while you are running
- are much harder to shake-off
- make you bleed 8 out of ten initial contacts
- start causing damage 15 feet away
- aggro from around corners (initial zombie)
Other frustrations: I was 500 meters from a small town and aggroed a zombie while I stood behind a car. Repairing/salvaging a vehicle can be brutal due to the non-stop aggros.
I like the NPC/AI squads for the most part, but:
- they spawn in on player positions about a city block away about every 3 kilometers. Instead they should be on set patrols
- The NPC/AI squad, along with the zombies, gravitate to your position regardless of how concealed or stationary you may be
- The NPC/AI squad was shooting and moving on a separate real player. Killed him and immediately moved in my direction. I was behind them, behind a tree, and in the prone. They killed me.
- The NPC/AI squad will see/detect you at times and other times they are oblivious
- I put 75% of a Makarov magazine into one NPC/AI squad member at point blank range and 75% of a Makarov magazine into another NPC/AI squad member at about 20 feet away with no effect
- I do not know if the de-spawn time of dead NPC/AI has already been extended, but the initial de-spawn time was too short in duration
- The zombies do not respond to NPC/AI gun fire or try to attack the NPC/AI characters
Another issue is there is a problem with cached vehicles moving about 20 feet after restart
