Project Reality 1.0

After eight years in development, after numerous updates, after hundreds of matches played, Project Reality for Battlefield 2 has reached its final form: PR 1.0. it can be pre-loaded from their website. The password will be revealed on August 2nd, 2013 at 12:00 UTC. Before that you can't play it.

Due to the sheer amount of content in this release, there is no patch available from previous versions. Any previous installations of Project Reality: BF2 (excluding the v1.0 Open BETA) you currently have installed will be automatically removed during the PR:BF2 v1.0 installation. For those who participated in the Open BETA, please uninstall it via the control panel prior to installing v1.0. The installer comes packaged in an ISO file and instructions on how to install are detailed on the downloads page.



New Features and Changes

Project Reality: BF2 v1.0 features thousands of changes and improves every aspect of the game. All of these changes combined with the addition of 2 new factions, 6 new maps, an array of new assets and multiple bug fixes, have helped make PR:BF2 v1.0 into our largest most featured packed release to date and promises players the most realistic, team oriented, online gaming experience available on the PC. Here is a quick rundown of the most noticeable changes:

All new PR Game Launcher and Updater.
100 player servers and 8 player squads.
Integrated Positional Voice Chat (PR Mumble).
40 total maps, including 6 brand new maps.
Updates to existing maps.
2 new factions: African Resistance Fighters and French Armed Forces.
New vehicles and weapons.
New kit geometries for multiple factions.
Added Machine Gunner and Spotter kits.
Reworked rally point system.
New sounds and special effects (explosions, etc).

I had a quick check with the single player. Here are some of my thoughts.

First of all, the random deviation is at a sane level, finally. On single fire (with an assault rifle with a red dot sight), you can hit targets closer than 50m away quite reliably. If you keep clicking, there will be recoil and some amount of deviation, but you can still hit enemies at that range. On full auto you don't hit the friends standing next to you anymore, but of course all the bullets won't hit the target. The insane amount of random deviation turned me off the mod, but now it's fixed!

Now there are back-up iron sights (BUIS), accessed by holding Q and right-clicking, if the weapon does have BUIS. I think this is a great addition, although I couldn't figure out how to use them when I was playing. (I read the manual after playing )

The shotguns are devastatingly accurate and deadly at close range. According to the manual, they can be used to breach locked doors. C4 could be used as well. I didn't even think this would be in the mod when I played.

A machine gun I tried by shooting at a wall was just as accurate as an assault rifle, but if I was prone and had deployed the weapon, at 50m it would have almost no deviation at all. I didn't try further ranges.

Using the underbarrel grenade launcher was fun. You have to estimate the distance and set the sight accordingly by holding Q and selecting the estimated distance.

The manual says that some armored vehicles have IR optics. I don't know if previous versions of PR had this, but I'm sure regular BF2 didn't.
