All right Lambourne! You'll enjoy "the Arma 3." Arma3 wasteland is all I've been playing lately. I'm not sure if the lite version includes multiplayer.

According to the official FAQ, Arma 3 Alpha Lite doesn't include multiplayer, modding or saving custom scenarios. I don't have Arma 3 alpha, so you could give one copy to me. I may even end up buying the full game if it feels good.

AAARGH! It will expire "in less than 3 days", as Steam says. I'll be away next week so I had to start downloading right away.

It shouldn't take long to download

It sure didn't. Just a bit over an hour. Pretty well for a 4 gig download with my internet speed. I have briefly tested the infantry showcase (killed someone, got shot in the head while I was wondering how to change stances) and the scuba showcase. I really liked diving in there while the helicopter up above was completely unaware of me. Then I was told that Harry Enfield's Television Programme was on tv so I stopped playing and started watching the show. I'll check the rest of the showcases later tonight. That's all there is in the alpha lite.

Final report:
I tested all the showcases briefly. I spent most time with the scuba and vehicle ones. In the vehicle showcase I had to walk about 300 metres and steal a guarded military vehicle. I tried it quite a few times before I made it to the car. (the sights weren't zeroed well for that short range so I had trouble hitting the enemies. By the way, the dual sights are awesome!) I guess the handling was a bit better, and the rear-view mirrors actually worked. I got a remotely familiar feeling from that mission somehow. Maybe it was just being so simliar to Arma 2, except much less clunky (the improved stances were a very good addition) in many ways, but it may have as well been the Ghost Recon feeling. Finally in Arma, small scale infantry fighting feels more than decent.
The chances for me to buy Arma 3 rose from "unlikely" to "likely". I can imagine the clan playing it and having some very memorable experiences. There really is no other game like Arma, and Arma 3 seems to have perfected the formula.
