Good idea, ok so now I am hosting a BF2 server and am also connected to it myself with XFire running, Could someone let me know as soon as possible if they can join it? If we can we should be able to use it tonight for the training. Also once you can join it through XFire could you see if you can join by entering the IP address into BF2.
Thanks

OK I have just realized that if I leave my solider in-game too long IL be kicked for inactivity, in case this happens, the ip that XFire is giving me for the server is: 192.168.1.65:16567
Iv port forwarded all the necessary ports on my router and Firewall so we should be good to go!

If the previous ip does not work then try this IP: 86.128.121.83:16567

On behalf of =SWF=brusingbruno: I dont know if this helps or not but i know you can start an UNRANKED BF2 server for free. We could use it. The only down side is no global unlocks. Here is a link on how to do it if you want to start one: www.serverwiki.org/index.php/BattleField_2_Windows_Server_Setup =SWF= brusingbruno

I personally dont think that we need global unlocks for practice i meen each kit has its own stuff for no matter which gun you choose. Plus its only practice, not like its the real deal.

I have tried several times to establish a server and have never been able to get it to show-up in the BF2 populated server list.
If anyone out there can assist, please do.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS POST BEFORE OFFERING YOUR IDEAS
OK I am starting this thread to try and get this server up and running!
The story so far: I have managed to host a server that appears in the list in BF2 itself, everyone can see it, no one can join it, I myself cannot join using the ip address that it shows when you single click on the server.(86.128.121.83) However I can join if I manually type the IP address I assigned to the server. (192.168.1.65)
I believe that 86.128.121.83 is my EXTERNAL ip and 192.168.1.65 is my PC's INTERNAL ip address!
I am hosting on the IP, 192.168.1.65, but everyone on the outside must join through my router IP, 86.128.121.83, and then my router would forward you to my PC and the hosted server.
I believe the issue is with my router, i think everyone can see the server, but when trying to join, the router is not forwarding you to my PC and the server.
This would require Port Forwarding.
I have port forwarded all the the ports necessary to run BF2 server, however it clearly isn't working.
So has anyone got any ideas to help get this thing running?
Ghost has spent a while getting team speak up and running so he is my best bet, but anyone else's help will be appreciated!
I hope I have explained everything clearly. Let me know if you need any more information.
Just so everyone knows as well, joining through XFire does NOT bypass the need for an IP address, it simply takes the IP from the BF2 server and joins it without the need to manually type in the IP yourself. It does it all for you! So joining through XFire is not a valid work around.
Thanks in advance =SWF=Angry

To little to late??
192.168.1.65 is the IP your router is assigning to your computers, printers, TIVOs, etc on your home network.
1st I suggest changing this just for security purposes alone. Most hackers know that 192.168.1.# is the standard assigned IP. Also ensure your router only allows the exact number of systems on your home network that you have. Most routers allow for 50 connections as the standard and you really don't want that many computers on your home network. Bots are fairly common way of extracting bandwidth and processing power from networked computers. Not that I know anything about that.
86.128.121.83 is the IP assigned by your ISP. This is what we will have to log onto to get to your computer. You will need to forward all BF2 requests from this IP to the servers IP. Sounds like you have all this set up (http://portforward.com/routers.htm is a great resource to check your work)
Looks like the port we are accessing the server from is 16567 so you should definitely have that as the port your forwarding.
Yours should look something like this:
Application = BF201 (just the naming convention I use for the 11 ports I forward for BF2) Port from=16567 Protocol=both IP address=192.168.1.65 Port to=16567 Enable = (checkmark)
I'm using a linksys router and installed DD-WRT over the linksys firmware (heck of a lot better) your router may differ.
unfortunately not many of us, including me, have a static IP address so everytime you shutdown your network or reconnect to your ISP it will give out a new IP. Same problem I have with TS and just one of the reasons nobody has been able to use it until today.
Don't know if this will help; let me know and we'll try and diagnose.
Ghost
