Many video game developers have started making on PC games, get successful, and move into Console game development.
What is the history of this occurrence?
What is the positive and negative of a developer moving to consoles?

In theory, broading your audience and bringing in more money to your studio should be a good thing. I believe it is possible to develop games for both platforms and even the same game for all platforms.
Unfortunately, the reality is that the smart business move has not rewarded the PC customers. I believe the developers should express gratitude toward their PC fans for their success and should not be shorting their original customers.
I understand that companies want to make more money. And, it makes sense to move into a very similar product area to increase profits. I also strongly believe the console makers are putting pressure on the video game developers to make all the platforms equal. This means the PC gets a sub-standard product.
The issue seems simple to me. Make a great game on PC and port it to consoles. The reality is the developers for one reason or another make the game for consoles and port the game to PC.
What are some examples of this phenomenon: Infinity Ward - Call of Duty BioWare - Dragon Age Crytek - Crysis Visceral Games - Deadspace DICE - Battlefield
What can be done to combat this mess? - Vote with your wallet (Don't buy sub-standard products) - Express your disapproval - Do not pre-order - This one applies directly to DICE: Play the maps and only buy the DLC that suits the maps and playing style you like. Otherwise, the metrics/telemetry will be used against you.
