Who would have guessed the Battlefield Veterans would have to teach DICE about their own franchise?
BF1942 released in 2002
BF2 released in 2005
DICE purchased by EA in 2006
BF3 was released in 2011
DICE has been under the control of EA for approximately 7 years and is clearly a console game developer now. Many things occured in between the release of BF2 and BF3.
- The Desert Combat mod team, Trauma Studios, was hired to collaborate in the development of BF2 and was fired about the time the game was released
- EA purchased DICE and changed DICE's focus to take Call of Duty market share
- Video game development is a young man's occupation. Many older Battlefield developers departed
- DICE hired console players
- DICE developed Modern Combat, Bad Company 1, 1943, and Bad Company 2 for consoles. DICE decided to be generous at let PC gamers play the last release before BF3.
- Clearly not many of the Battlefield Developers have ever played BF2 or BF2142
- The Executive Producer changed from Sean Decker to Patrick Bach
Why would so many features from BF2 be removed from BF3?
- BF3 developed for consoles
- BF3 was developed for the COD kiddies
What is the evidence that BF3 was developed for consoles?
- DICE said, "The PC is the lead platform"
- EA declared war against Call of Duty
- The code for the game is in the PS3 language
- Each release is provided to the PS3 audience before the other platforms
- Major sponsored tournaments are for the consoles
- The E3 presentation of BF3 was with the Operation Metro map with no sign of a commo rose
- Pixel Enemy and Don't Revive Me Bro are pulled over from Call of Duty
- BF3 looks more like Bad Company 2
- Gameplay cater to twitch players
- Integrated Teamplay tools removed
- Commander removed
- Failed socialized button in BF3
- Squad Leader position ineffective
- Casual Assist features added (3d spot, regenerative health, etc)
- Smaller maps with smaller playable area and fewer control points
- VoIP functions for consoles and does not function for PCs
- Smaller squads with only 4 kits
- DICE can't get the Commo Rose to function properly
- Close Quarters is the first DLC released
- No Battle Recorder
- No LAN ability
- No Mod ability
- DICE said, "Battelfield 3 is the sequel to Battlefield 2"
