Concept Discussion
The bots would do the dirty time consuming jobs no wants to do. The XO as part of the three man leadership team would priortize and control bot activities. A good portion of the bots activites would be to improve and protect the main base. The XO would have to decide how to best utilize the bots to support the Team Commander's fight to victory.
Bots would be needed to build infrastructure. The bots would construct obstacles to better protect the main base. The bots would assemble the supply crates acting out the delay between crates. If a bot is not dedicated to the task, then the task does not get done. Guard towers could be built and manned by human players or bots. An upgrade structure to improve vehicles with reactive armor or similar upgrades could be constructed by the bots.
Weapon emplacements would not longer be in the same location. Stationary guns, anti-aircraft emplacements, and anti-armor emplacements would be coordinated by the XO with the Commander and Squad Leaders to put the weapon systems where they can best utilized. Predicability would be decreased while lethality would be increased.
The bots could be sent forward to pre-position supply crates and cache them. The crates could be partially dug-in to protect them from direct fire and from detection by enemy forces.
SLs would request bot support (Build, Dig-in, Transport, Defend) much like SLs used request support from the Commander. The bots would be pushed outward to improve defensive positions forward for the human player squad members to occupy. Or, bots could occupy defensive positions.
Transport could be to deliver human players and the bot returns the valued transport vehicle to the main base. Or, the bots could go out to a remote location to deliver transportation to a player in need of a set of wheels.
The commander of the team would not have to request a stray engineer to come back to the main base to repair CDR assests. The bots could be allocated to conduct needed repairs at the main base. Bots could be diverted from their on-going function to accomplish a different needed function. Aircraft could be required to land and move on the ground to gain repairs and rearm at covered arming stations. Enemy aircraft could bomb a friendly runway to try make it inoperable. Bots could then be tasked to conduct runway repairs. If a pilot wanted to do it himself, he could use the runway repair bull dozer to repair the runway.
The bots would be lightly armed with submachine guns, but able to defend themselves. They would not have the magic perfect hand grenade throw or the magic perfect hand-held anti-tank shot. It would not be advantageous for a Team's XO to put the bots on the offensive. The bots best use would be in a support role and would be a resource better off not wasted.
Features like bots upgrading vehicles during a match or the bots themselves could be a server admin toggled decision of how the game should be played.
This would be another system of dependence and providing for others that was present in Battlefield 2 with the Commander, Squad Leader, Medic, Engineer, and Support that is not present in more recent releases.
