... Originally posted on 10 JUN 2011 What I am saying is, "this is definately not a sequel to Battlefield 2." Having said that, these were my BIG "3" strongly desired features early-on when I saw all the BF2 features being stripped out: Commander
Squad Leader
Commo RoseWe ended up with one out of three. We lost the Commander position and the Commo Rose. DICE has eluded to some form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Commander (I believe DICE is describing the BFBC2 order system). It looks like we are getting the Bad Company 2 (BFBC2) order system for BF3 where anyone in the squad can give an order by clicking on the neon icon in the sky and no one pays attention. So, what did we get? What survived the cuts with the goal of making a casual COD console crowd BF3? We will have 4-man squads with a squad leader and a spawn on squad leader with a shift to another squad mate if the squad leader dies. Does that mean the whole squad leader position is shifted to a random player on your squad. Lets hope not!! I am very disappointed at the removal of teamplay features (leader, order, commo systems). I wrote the forum thread post (with humor injected) in the EA UK Forum and received an infraction (warning) for it. I would be very interested if the Members of this organization think I went overboard or if I was on target with what was written. I took a bullet for what I thought was right. Does it look like I am bucking for a Section 8??

I never thought I would have to fight to keep the basic BF2 features. I, honestly, thought that we would get enhanced and expanded BF2 features. I knew all along that there was tremendous pressure to turn Battlefield into Call of Duty, but I, really, thought DICE would do the right thing.
The COD money and the pressure from the higher headquarters is more than they could bear.
P.S. I do have another theory: The Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942 co-developed Battlefield 2. Perhaps their influence or other key personnel, who have departed, shaped Battlefield into the game we know and love. Perhaps some of the remaining older Battlefield guys resented the opinions of outsiders.
Either way, welcome your Company of Duty (BFBC2 & COD).

ArmA devs must be rubbing their hands You only have to look at the ArmA community to realise this is what people want: Realism Tactics Teamwork Huge maps etc..etc ArmA3 is on it's way !

Battlefieldo Chat with Zh1nt0, BF Community Manager 8 JUN 2011 By Stadler
Squad Leader functions <@stadler_> So what is the role of the squad leader?
<@dice_zh1nt0> Again, since the squad leader, comma rose and some other questions are a really hot topic, let me get into the office and see what we are actually trying to achieve with the squad based systems. Expect a reply from me after E3.
sfscriv thoughts: "Lame!"
Squad Leader only spawn <Mytre> Can players spawn at their base and on the squad leader only, or can you spawn on any squad mate?
<@dice_zh1nt0> People will be able to spawn on set places such as "base A" etc... just as in previous BF titles as well as spawn on the squad.
sfscriv thoughts: "Lame!"
Commo Rose <@stadler_> Is there any confirmation about the Commarose in BF3? Can we expect to see that?
<@dice_zh1nt0> So, people who ask for comma rose. Here is a question from me. Have you played BF2 and did you think the comma rose was the ultimate feature implemented? <@dice_zh1nt0> So what happened with BF2 was that while the comma rose did pull it´s weight there was too much "noise" with the comma rose. Difficult to explain but imagine someone shouting the same orders to you in a spammy way. You´re not going to be edgy and react to it as you do in combat <@dice_zh1nt0> "enemy spotted" for the 100th time. <@dice_zh1nt0> Comme Rose took away a little bit of the edge. Not saying it was a bad idea, just saying it could be implemented and be made more perfect. <@dice_zh1nt0> Now very political of me but I can´t answer whether comma rose is going to make it in but bare in mind that we have a few months left to go <@dice_zh1nt0> I´m very confident that the feedback I´ve been taken into the Studio this last year is being considered. People can expect a good "community game"
sfscriv thoughts: "Weak and Lame, again!"

When I saw the Metro map gameplay, it looked like Call of Duty with BC2 classes (but LMG is back on supprort? great!) and things like health boxes, defibs and ammo boxes. And of course destruction. I am really getting worried. All my favourite games are being changed into something unrecognizable; Splinter Cell with Conviction, Hitman with Absolution, Battlefield with 3. How sad... Even though only one of them is released so there is still some hope for the other two.
I noticed from the first post that Commo rose is being removed. Can they seriously do that and call it Battlefield 3? Have they confirmed it? Is there the same awful thing that replaced commo rose like there was in BC2? I don't want to believe this. Was it too much for the mainsteam (read: CoD kids) players? If it was for the "enemy spotted" spam, make it so you can't say the same thing over ten times or something. Removing Commo rose is not an option. It's just getting away form the problem.
But after all, we can't judge a game before it's released. We'll see it then, see it's actually a CoD clone with vehicles and medpacks, and go back playing Bf2... Sigh, I would have been happy with Bf2+new maps+new weapons, without the unrealistic deviation (the bullets should go where the barrel is pointed at) and with destruction.

Attention to detail. Sustaining and improving features.
1) Difficult tasks to accomplish if you are not listening to your core Battlefield Veterans and are unfamiliar with your company's past products while at the same time developing a game for consoles.
2) Being in-tune with the community (paying customers who have been loyal for years), the company's past products, and building for the PC makes a huge difference in the final product.
We are getting Bad Company 3 (BFBC3) due to option #1. EA/DICE made the decision to go after Call of Duty at any cost. Their target audience was identified years ago. Abandon the fans who have been around years and go after the other guy's short attention span fans.
