Ok I have to set some things straight here......
I got to be an alpha tester for 1 day on BF3 thanks to a friend of mine who got an alpha code. He let me play on his machine (which is about like mine), and for an ALPHA it was fantastic it was better than most ready to release games, given that this was an ALPHA there were things that I did not like, such as the spotting which from the Caspian Border Video seems to have been altered, there was not a Commo-Rose implemented however DICE has confirmed Commo-Rose in final release and I would not be surprised if it was in the BETA.
I have also seen the official Multiplayer Fact Sheet on BF3 with a confirmation of everything shown and some not shown yet, that list also does not give detail to everything BF3 has to offer. Scriv I'm sorry you don't have a commander in BF3 but trust me it would have minimal effect and really it does not seem to fit in this game.
As for Team play, most people in the alpha were goofing around with the engine like I was just marveling at all the niceties, I did manage to get some good team play and it was phenomenal.
The coolest part of BF3 is how stuff is totally customizable, i can take a G3 Assault Rifle and make it into either a DMR or a CQB ass kicking machine, when you put it all together this game feels like it has 15 classes in it instead of 4. All the "class" is pretty much a broad base spectrum of skills that you build on, you can make an Engineer an anti-everything if you spec it right, and a Sniper can be a forward observer that uses suppressed full auto weapons to give CQB accurate fire, and then there is a first for the sniper in a Battlefield Game the Barrett M82A3 (M82M1 by US Army Standards) that's right a 10 round SEMI-AUTO .50BMG sniper that can be customized to make it a light Anti-Armor weapon, Support is not left out at all especially with a brilliant bipod integration system that BF3 uses to make supported LMG's able to pin down and entire fireteam (yes you can be suppressed like in Project Reality). And the Assault class can now be either a front line medic or a true jack of all trades.
Unlike in BFBC2 where only Engineer weapons had suppressors in BF3 ANYTHING GOES including Underbarrel Grenade Launchers that let you fire HE,Smoke, and 40mm BUCKSHOT, as well as another new first in BF3 a "MASTERKEY", yes a "MASTERKEY" but it gets better that 12 gauge "MASTERKEY" can shoot Buckshot, Slugs, Flechette, or HE rounds and yes in RL there are 12 Gauge HE slugs. Rocket systems are different including the famed FGM-148 Javelin Anti-Armor system, and there is NOT going to be a "Tracer Dart" gun in the game.
While customizing your soldier is nothing new in games customizing you VEHICLES IS, that's right Scriv your precious Abrams can now even fire CANISTER rounds if you have that trained, you can also fire Guided Shells, APFSDS-T and have either an LMG coaxial or an HMG coaxial, as well as REACTIVE armor, combine that with an engineer with a repair tool that can also kill enemies and you have a deadly combo.
Of course, I will provide my sources of info so that you guys know you can trust my word, and below is the links to both the Caspian Border Gameplay and DICE's release of the Multiplayer Fact Sheet.
*Addendum: As for the vehicles regain health, it is confirmed however that will be server set and it can be turned off from what I have heard, and if a vehicle takes serious damage they become disabled requiring an engineer to fix them up or die.
