Request for assistance
Alright. Please be cautious in your response. I do not what either webhosting sites messed up or data lost.
Current situation: The front of the black background forum is hosted with Yahoo and the forum database is with Intervision.
Here is the desired endstate: The front end of the black background forum and its data base are co-located on the Yahoo account.
Bonus (Advanced stuff, not a big deal if not accomplished): Not even sure if this can be done. Probably should test saved copies of both forums before testing. Merge the black background forum with the proboard green forum.
Here is what Yahoo said:

I might be able to merge the daabases. I have not done it before but I have worked with php and html coding, SQL databases and the associated programs dealing with the "back door" admin. This is what I planned on doing with the forums when I get a new website up and running but I still havn't been able to crack the new editors. Starting from scratch can be extremely difficult but existing websites are usually pretty easy to work with.

So, I'm trying to get this straight. I don't know anything about black background forum and Intervision. I do see that this forum is hosted by Proboards. I understand you would like everything under one roof with a front page. I think that is correct. So can you give me the following. - list of the forums/sites you have. - Software that is currently used. - where each is hosted. - Where do you what the end result hosted. Please provide links to other forums/sites you have and want merged. I'm pretty familiar with forums and site, free and paid versions and will help the best I can ED

Black background forum forum.spartanwarfighters.net/- Yahoo hosts the Front end of the forum - Domain with Yahoo is www.spartanwarfighters.net- Intervision hosts the database - Domain with Intervision is spartanwarfightersbattlerecordings.net - Green background forum is hosted by Proboards. - Domain is spartanwf.proboards.comAt a minimum, I would like to move the database hosted by Intervision to unite it with the front portion of the forum under the Yahoo roof. Bonus would be to move posts made after 10 MAR 2012 in the green background forum hosted by proboards and merge the data with the black background forum with the front-end and database hosted by Yahoo. - Software currently used is unknown - I would like the front-end, database, and after 10 MAR 2012 posts all hosted in the black background forum with Yahoo.

Ok.. I've had a chance to look around. Thanks scriv for the logon info. So at a high level... You have a Hot Mess here! Two forums, one website with the database hosted elsewhere. All I can say is DAAAAAMN!!!! Scriv, you're on the right path when wanting to move away from proboards and merging to phpbb. Your budget, (if any) - Many clans go the free route and while "free" is very attractive, it does come at a cost. Not by way of money, but features. While free software is good, free hosting is not. There are many hosts on the Internet that are very cheap. You have the Yahoo Small Business account for your website and I don't think they are free, but not recommended for gaming sites. These forums are hosted by proboards. Did you know that it's against ProBoards TOS that you are NOT ALLOWED to export these messages to another forum type? There was a converter made and published in the phpbb forum and ProBoards quickly put a stop to it. My recommendations: - Move ALL operations to a single host. (Leave Yahoo) - Stay with PhpBB (Update to the latest version) - Integrate a CMS with PhpBB - Check with ProBoards if you can export this database to your own. Host recommendations: - www.site5.com ( I've been with them for about 8 years now. Prior to that, I moved hosts about once a year after finding out how bad they were) - www.site5.com/hosting/web/ I hope this helps a little. I think you can have a real nice, easy to maintain website by picking the right software and host.

Ed,
I have created websites before and currently have space at GoDaddy with "spartanwarfighters.com" as the address. The sites I created were simple with a divorced forum and other pages were open to the public much like we have now. I want a website similar to yours where you log in to the website instead of just the forums. I have been fumbling with the free editors strewn about the web but if you haven't been using them from the beginning of creation it is extremely difficult to get them working the way you want. GoDaddy has full FTP access and allows you to install anything you want. What I need is a CMS that is easy to use and has a lot of module support that isn't too expensive.
Scriv and Ed,
I'm not sure what our budget is at the moment but I can throw up to $50 in if needed to get the CMS we need to create our ultimate website.
Ed,
Thanks for taking a look for us and the help so far. It is very much appreciated.

I do not want to surrender or replace the current =SWF= domain, website, or forum. I want to use the black background forum with the front end and database hosted by Yahoo.

Why do you want to stay with Yahoo? I need more clarification on your reasoning for this move before I say anything else on the subject.

The "spartanwarfighters" domain is hosted by Yahoo. The clan has been with Yahoo since May 2007.
We initially got InHost webhosting service to store Battlefield Demo recordings. The black background forum was setup by DeadAim. At the time, Yahoo would only host one MySQL, so DeadAim configured the black background forum with the front end hosted by Yahoo and the database was hosted by InHost. The multiple long-term operational problems with the black background forum were caused by InHost blocking ports and not having the technical knowledge/resolve to solve the problem.
When the black background forum is operational, what is wrong with using that forum?
What would be the advantages of a different webhosting company or forum/website?

There are many advantages moving from Yahoo.
- The Yahoo Hosting Control is not user friendly. In fact, it's horrible! other hosts use cPanel or their own like Stie5.com. These are very slick and easy to navigate. - Limited space. Not that you need a lot, but most sites have unlimited. - Multiple mySQL Databases. Not sure if Yahoo still only gives you one. - Create access for users to the back end control panel with limited permissions.
Having a easy to navigate control panel just makes everything easier. There is nothing at Yahoo that other hosts do not have. I can only tell you from experience and of-course it's only my opinion, but if I were to help a friend out, I would lead them in the direction that would benefit them the most.
I'm not a host provider, and I'm not gaining anything from telling you where you should host, just that in all my years in experience of websites that I have had, finding a good host with the great support and a slick control panel will make your experience just as fun as mine.
