New instructions.... worked perfect for me. Taken from:
1. Install ArmA 2 & ArmA 2 OA from steam.
2. Run ArmA 2 -- exit once you've hit the main menu.
3. Run ArmA 2 OA
a. (IF YOU GET AN ERROR ABOUT 'No entry Bin something or other....' -- DON'T PANIC!!!) close steam completely, re-open as administrator, go to your library, right-click on ArmA 2 OA, click properties, click the local files tab, then click 'Verify integrity of game cache'
b. it will say something about 1 file corrupt and will be reacquired -- go ahead and close steam again, re-open it again (as administrator), and run ArmA 2 OA. It should run just fine now.
4. Go to the main menu, then exit.
5. Get '6 Updater' from www.six-updater.net/p/download.html and install it -- but DO NOT click install DayZ yet!
6. Get the ArmA 2 OA beta patch from www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php and extract/install that... shouldn't take very long.
7. Now you can click install on the 6 updater. Let that finish and update.
8. While it is updating, go to www.mediafire.com/?97zbdi6rfejft8a and download the DayZBeta.zip file. extract to your 'program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead' folder.
9. Right-click the extracted file and choose edit. Scroll down to the bottom, find the text '-window' and delete it. File>Save
10. Create a shortcut to the file and place it on the desktop.
11. (Optional) Right-click your new shortcut and click properties. Click 'change icon'. Browse to your ArmA 2 OA folder and choose ArmA2OA.exe to pick your icon.
12. (MANDATORY) Play DayZ with other Spartans and kick some zombie butt. ;D
This worked for me, it may not work once the game is updated again, but for version 1.7.1.5 of DayZ, it works.
As a side note, using the shortcut does not require steam to be running, nor does it require the 6 launcher to run (though Spartan says it should be used anyway).

------------------------- Probably disregard below this line -------------------
1) Download and install ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead
2) Launch both games to the multiplayer server browser (Warning - Steam Probably updates; look bottom right to see which version you are running)
3) Download and install combined operations Update 1.60 for Arrowhead.
4) Launch Arrowhead to the multiplayer server browser and verify you are running version 1.60
5) Now, you are ready to download and install the Six Updater
Once you have the Six software operational, Launch it
6) With the Arrowhead game closed, select the server you want to play on and the game should update automatically.
7) There will be some issues. Please be patient.
------------------------------------
The Six Launcher Is definately the way to go. The Launcher updates each time you launch it.
This a more direct path to the actual software you desire:

As you can see, this is not a simple installation. Wobbly wrote:
