I will use this thread to do a side by side between both games.
I saw a commercial with Jonah Hill for MW3 which was pretty funny. So I presume that for Hype MW3 is putting everything into promoting MW over BF3. I don't recall seeing a BF3 commercial.
When I get MW3 tomorrow I'll start posting on graphics etc.

I saw the BF3 trailer on TV, the one with the Jay-Z (?) music (?) on the background. You know, the one that is about 99 problems and female dogs. Strangely it only said it was available on PS3. PC or the Xbox wasn't mentioned at all. That's very misleading and strange. MW3 commercials I haven't seen on Tv, but I saw a couple on some magazines.
I have found it funny that almost every time I've watched a MW3 video on IGN, there's a BF3 ad before it.
And it's clear EA wants the money Activision is making with CoD; BF3 was released unfinished just so it would get some extra sales, the gameplay and unlock systems are similiar to CoD to attract the customers, "Beyond the Call and Above" said some commercial as if to mock MW3...

This is my PS3 comparison of the single player aspects of both games:
Graphics: Both are outstanding and detailed. Winner: ... Draw
Sound: For this evaluated area, I crank my stereo to "Brain damage" level. MW sounded very plain with weapon sounds nothing great except better voice acting. BF3 sounded very real with weapons having their own sound. BF explosions rocking the house made my cat go hide where as MW3 didn't scare her at all. After 5 min of BF3, my ears felt like I was at a shooting range. Winner: ... BF3
Game play: Both are straight shooters on rails. Nothing for tactics, In BF3, when one kills all enemies no more pop out. In MW3, all one has to do is move to a checkpoint to advance on the board. Winner: ... Draw
Story: MW3 is a direct sequel to MW2. Good story with usual theme of WMD and such. BF3 story was similar, but not as original. Winner: ... MW3
Campaign Length: This is a sore point with me as most games of late have very short campaigns. I have not beat MW3 yet, but in 2 hrs I had completed 4 chapters. I beat BF3 in about 10 hrs. Winner: ... Draw
Fun Factor: I enjoyed BF3 a lot and for replay value nothing gave me a reason to play a level again. MW3 has the enemy intel to find and also the return of Spec-ops that can be played on split screen with a friend. I like that I can use MW as a party game and not have to go online to play. Also, MW3 has survival mode against waves of enemies. I really enjoy both games, but I give this one to MW3 for having split screen play. Sometimes it is nice to just play with a friend to kill bots and if your friend goofs up you can smack them. ;D Winner: ... MW3
Multiplayer: IMHO the BF series takes the cake with vehicles and such. And, on single player being able to use a tank. MW3 is fun with the UAVs and such, but MW series lacks a good vehicle board. BF3 would be the one I would play online before MW3. Winner: ... BF3
Overall: Both games have their weaknesses and good points which makes it difficult to pick one. For a console single player, MW3 offers more without going online. BF3 offers vehicles and better sound quality, but no extras or split screen co-op. Online BF3 will be the king IMHO.
For the single player experience, I'm getting more from MW3 so far. The winner for Single player only is MW3. The split screen play really pushed me to this choice. For online gaming, BF3 would be the better choice. I felt the Bad Company single player was better than the one in BF3.
Overall Winner: ... DRAW!
Graphics: .................... Draw Sound: ......................... BF3 Game play: ................ Draw Story: .......................... MW3 Campaign Length: ... Draw Fun Factor: ............... MW3 Multiplayer: ............... BF3 .

Nice Comparison Review, pysco. These would be my evaluated categories:
Single Player - Gameplay - Story - Campaign Length
Multiplayer - Gameplay - Teamplay features (Leader positions; Specialized kits [dependancy]; VoIP/keyboard & mouse communication; Points & Awards; video tutorials; Big interactive map; Big maps with space between flags; in-game squad management; Order system; Squad Leader spawn & deployable spawn; Status of infantry, squad, vehicle monitoring)
Other multiplayer considerations - Hit registration - Physics (Infantry, vehicle, aircraft) - Ingame controls (keyboard, mouse, HUD, joystick, IR Track) - Server controls - Community Support (Battle Recorder, Mod Tools, LAN support, Spectate, Interact & act on feedback)
Both - Graphics - Sound - Bugs (numbers, severity, frequency) - Post-release support (patches/expansions) - User Interface - Game modes - Persistence (Rank/Awards/Points/Unlocks) - Innovation

I forgot to add I like the ability to destroy cover in BF3.
I wish developers would add Bullet drop and weapon malfunctions to the mix. I liked the malfunctions in OFP DR and Far Cry 2.They did their homework for Far Cry2 on clearing the various weapons. It would be fun to have a spawn campers weapon jam in multi-player.
I asked two friends of mine their thoughts they both agreed on MW3 offering more for single players. They both enjoyed BF3 for multi-player.They never played Bad Co or BF2 ,they enjoyed the team work and more mature players compared to MW. My friends are in their early 20's and were hardcore COD players at one time.
I also found MW more fast paced compared to BF3.I like a medium pace to a game and BF3 wins in that. MW3 has some vehicle missions but one only gets to gun on most of them so far.One exception was being able to operate a UGV but no real freedom of movement like Thunder Run in BF3.

With regard to destruction there was a nice comment on the EA forum that made me smile, it read-
MW3 - 'look out for that sniper in the building !' BF3 - Boom !!! 'what building ?'

My personal favorite of the BF3 taglines: You don't just call in the airstrike - You ARE the airstrike!
... I guess that's how Japanese pilots were trained on the WWII. Obviously it's referring to CoD, where you just press a button and call in an airstrike, but in BF you actually do it yourself with a jet. It just sounds very stupid.

Campaign took me 7 hours to beat. Spec-ops is very challenging though and enjoying it with friends. Time for a new Rainbow 6 game hope Ubisoft has one in the pipeline.

How about the single (co-op) missions? Are they any fun? MW2 had a very good co-op which gave fun for weeks with its single missions. I might get the game just for the 2-player split-screen game, that BF3 for some reason doesn't have.

For online BF3 is the clear winner. On MW3 you have endless prattle and filthy mouths over the voip. I like doing online co-op on MW3. And like if I don't have a lot of time MW3 is great for a quick game.
BF3 with vehicles, mortars and ability to destroy buildings make it the better multiplayer experience.
The bigger maps of BF3 give it the edge also.
Overall Winner: ... BF3
Online Co-Op: .......... MW3 Quick Game: .............. MW3 Vehicles: ...................... BF3 Destruction: ............... BF3 Maps: ............................ BF3 Community: ................. BF3 Multiplayer: ............... BF3
