I think the time is right to rekindle the War Thunder thread ;D
I couldn't find any previous posts. Maybe we called it World of Planes or Warplanes back then.

It seems a few of us are really enjoying this game unawares that other Spartans and friends are also playing.
I have a few friends on my list. Could we all put our game names down so we could form a squadron and kick ass. I need fighter support for my bombing runs
This is my friends list so far, starting with my own name:

priust spent half his life in the RAF and cannot understand why he keeps getting shot down all the time I have said to him these guys are on this game 24/7 and are awesome. He is an FSX vet and has not played ANY multiplayer
He needs a couple of us on his 6 to keep him alive for a few minutes. I think it will increase all our survival rates.
I will get him onto TS3 soon and warn him he might get a couple of friend invites ingame.

Yeah that's most likely me, I love this game and I play with PCGN Ryker, bobo and ballsinacan a lot. As we spoke the other day I would like to have a game with fellow Spartans and your dad!

I'm tempted to at least give this game a try. How big is the initial download? How about the patches? Do I have to download any additional software in order to run it?

When you first brought up the topic, I thought you were talking about World of Warplanes which is a spin-off of World of Tanks.

Then, I figured out you were talking about War Thunder which also made some of the IL-2 Sturmovik games.

Part of the confusion is due to name similarities and name changes:
"The development of the game as World of Planes began in 2009... The name was later changed to War Thunder due to confusion with the similar competitor World of Warplanes."

Now, I am not sure what you are talking about. I was just trying to make things clear. Let me know, so I can clean this up.

Honestly, I didn't like war thunder at all. It seems like without a joystick the controls are clunky, and I can't stand games in which I have issues with the controls. It seems in depth, and might be worth trying again if I ever get a really nice joystick... but until then I will not play it again.

War Thunder is by Gaijin who developed 'Wings of Prey' and the 'Wings of Luftwaffe' add-on.

It is all very confusing , that is why they changed the name.

Wargaming.net produce the 'World of' series which will all be combined.(I think)

War Thunder has Army and Navy tabs, so will have air, land and sea battles at some stage.

I was hoping for a clearer resolution on which game you were wanting to have =SWF= Member participation. I am leaning toward "War Thunder" and will change the Thread title accordingly.

McGuirk, just add our names (in the first post) to the friends list.
When more than one of us online, we can then form a squadron.
I've not tried this yet, but there are also Co-Op missions for up to four players and mission editor.

I added all your names to my friends list. Mine is Capt_McGuirk. I promoted myself. Now at least I'm the same rank as Lambourne. I just have to buy a joystick now as flying with the keyboard is not going to work and the CH yoke isn't really made for dog fighting.
