BF2142 as compared to BF2
Likes - Point system - Added pin awards - The sound/feel of the sniper rifle - Unlock/Load-out system - Squad Leader Unlocks - Better infantry physics - Collecting dog tags - Titan game mode - Addition of handheld Anti-air weapon for infantry - Pistol more powerful (greater damage) - Squad Leader deployable spawn - APC spawn - Tutorial video incorporated into the game
Dislikes - Hover tank - Reduction from 7 kits to 4 kits - Sniper with C4 - Assault with medical equipment - Knifing grip and motion - Release date should have been delayed a year - mini-map (I like the round one in BF2 a lot more) - Sci-fi setting - Orange colors on the uniform - Rank structure - too quick to get toward the top ranks - Ground stationary gun was ineffective
Neutral - Field upgrades - Artillery damage

At first, I found 2142 a bit strange after BF2. Once I got used to the futuristic setting and weapons though, I felt it was a better game than BF2.
There are so many clever ideas to discover. (using 'pods' to get anywhere on the map, EMP mines to disable enemy vehicles and weapons)
Commanding Titan games was fun. As Commander you can move the Titan around the map to support those on the ground. At the same time keeping a eye on the enemy Titan position, moving in close when it is damaged enough to board. (like a game of chess with the enemy Commander) So, further into the game you can have three seperate battles going on at the same time (the ground map and on both Titans) Truly brilliant !
Teamwork is rewarded with more points. If you follow your Squad leaders orders, you get extra points, he gets points, and the Commander gets points if the Squad leader has followed his orders. Simple, obvious and encourages teamwork.
I loved all the weapons and vehicles other than the 'Hover Tank'. This is only because it took time to learn and I opted for the tracked version.
The only negatives for me are the quick ranking up, and being able to reach top rank without stepping foot in aircraft. For people to reach the top ranks, I think it essential that players achieve ALL the skills and awards to justify that position. The BF2 system was just about perfect, with the excepion of one huge gap between ranks. I think this gap sorted out the players who stayed, and those who couldn't face the grind. (might have been the intention)!
I have not really enjoyed a game more than 2142. Many that have played it say it is still the best teambased online shooter to date.
It's downfall was releasing it only one year after BF2. Well done DICE/EA.

PS. I have heard rumours of 2143 (or will it be BC2143) LOL. No doubt this will be released 1yr after BF3, therefore ensuring it's failure !!
