Share your configuration to improve speed and accessiblity. For example, what are good key/button settings to throw a grenade faster. Another, option is programing a "Hotkey."

I'd like some help in controlling the speed of fixed and rotary wing. While I'm becoming more capable at flying the things I'm always holding the throttle down or bouncing on it. Usually its to fast to bomb something or slow enough to lose altitude.
I figure when I finally get my HHG I can dig the ole wingmaster joystick out and give it a whirl but not sure how that will work

I have an old sidewinder joystick that I used to use for the game and it actually enabled me to fly reasonably well, I could out turn most opponents when using it as it gave me a much more responsive control method. However, the joystick used the old gamport style connection which has now disappeared from most if not all new motherboards so I cant use that anymore, but a new USB joystick isn't expensive, and it definitely improves your flying!
Also in regards to mice! I just got a Microsoft/Razor Habu Mouse with 2000dpi from my beloved wife. It is amazing, iv always been skeptical of these fancy mice, iv used a Microsoft intelimouse for years now and been very happy with it, but this Habu is something else! You can adjust the dpi 'on the fly' with 2 buttons situated just behind the wheel, this means that you can perfectly customize this mouse to your gaming style. It is so much more responsive that I went to a friends house and used his standard mouse and thought there was something up with it until I gave him my old intelimouse and found no improvement! Its a good mouse and I would definantly recommend it. Also on a slightly less important note, it doesn't look massive and weird, its got a blue light running round but you can turn that off with the software provided and the rest is a matt black with a standered shape. I hate these alien looking mice!
I'm yet to upgrade my keyboard, I use a standard Microsoft keyboard, my mate has a Z-board but he says its rubbish and has already stopped working (he has had it less then 6 months). So, I will stick with my plain old boring keyboard until I hear some good reviews of something else.
So thats my input devices.

They do make an adapter to convert the old serial ports into USB. If you do a search for "gameport to USB adapter" you'll get a ton of hits. Looks like they cost about $10.00. I know the wingmaster I bought a few years ago came with one but I don't recall using it. Your right, with my newest addition to my computer family I have know serial ports.
Angry, you have me looking at my mouse. Mine has the DPI button and a forward and back on the side. I'm going to have to look into what that will do for me on the battlefield! Thanks.

If your going to use the keyboard, then yes you have to bounce the throttle or else it wont work. As for bombing, I bomb stuff at full speed using the jets.
When your up against a chopper, slow flying is the best because it gives you time to get your MG's on it.
I personally use and old WingMan Extreme. I have the converstion into the USB port for it. The joystick has some problems but its good enough for now.

I have my BF2 integrated commo buttons configured like the diagram located here: www.spartanwarfighters.net/3mid/3commo/commo.htmThis way the keys are together and configured to what I was used to. - The "Q" key for Everyone Commo Rose is accessed using my speed pad. The others through the keyboard. - COD uses "T" for Team Text and "Y" Text for all. So, reconfigured BF2 default settings. - I wanted the Squad keys next each other and next to the other commo keys. I also did not want to accidently hit them during play so I shifted them to the right. The "G" key for Squad Chat and "H" for Commander and Squad Leader Commo Roses. - "V" for Command Voice and "B" is for Squad Internal Voice were left unchanged.

I was having trouble finding the default "9" key when it came time to frantically deploying my parachute.
I switched my parachute key to the BIG "0" in the number pad close to the bottom. Now, I have no issues jumping off a building if someone is chasing me and successfully deploying my chute.

How do you like using the speed pad?
Thinking about grabbing one; any clue to the best one out there?

A friend of mine who was a big FPS gamer before I had really experienced online gaming recommended the Nostromo 52 Speedpad and a laser mouse.
After a little over a year of online gaiming (still a newby),
- I can strongly recommend the Nostromo 52. It conforms to the hand, easier to work the keys than a standard keyboard, and I can displace it away from the keybaord a bit. It only around $35.
- I am happy with the laser mouse. My friend said it would provide a more accurate movement of the cursor/sights. It probably does. What I do like about it is the lack of a roller ball and cord. I do not have the long-term experience in online gaming to provide a true comparison.
- A surprise highly recommend was the mouse pad. I did some research and found a highly rated gaming mouse pad. It provides a very smooth experience. Even my wife says it "feels like it is floating." I have to dig up the information on it and will provide more info soon.

I was looking into getting the FPS 52te - think its the most recent verison. They're about double the price but hey why not!
Agree with the laser mouse. Picked up one that has the DPI button and a 5 total buttons (normal 3 and an additional 2 that usually work the FWD and Back on the web browser) I've got the 3 "upfront" buttons set for fire, jump, and look through the sights. The two at my thumb are set for switching between weapon 3 and 4 - real nice when launching a DRAGON missle while under enemy fire.
I didn't even think of the benifit of the DPI button until Angry mentioned how he was swapping while playing. Its nice to swap when you have to go from the fast moving cursor to slow down and take careful aim.
Think I'll purchase the speedpad this week IOT prep for this weekends battle!

The FPS 52te is mine! I swore I would never give into the temptation I saw surrounding Scriv's desk as we battle the computer demons together but... with my renewed addiction to BF2 I have taken the next step. Might take me awhile to get used to some of the controls but I believe the overall advantage willbe fantastic.
Ye ole Wingman Joy Stick will be here next week and I shall once again take to the air!

I have seen this question in other forums, and the answer in short is no. The turrets have a fixed movement rate that is not able to be changed, and using other forms of controller does not help. Sorry

I'm on a logitech set-up with the MX5000 and MX1000 keyboard and mouse.. And it gives me excellent performance..
Not that I would recommend it to any gamers.. Since it is wireless it still has the unstable properties. And every once in a while the keyboard just gets a delay on my commands which is pain in the ass. But only the keyboard that is delayed. But it is a sweet bluetooth desktop so I can hook it up to my PS3 as well, and the touch sensitive media controls are awesome..
This mouse is better than my old mice.. I have a 2k dpi logitech mouse and previous to that I had some other logitech gaming mouse..
The mouse is the most important..!!
