As some of you may have noticed, I like climbing in PS2. Here's a guide and a thread dedicated to the subject.
How?
Rule number one is that you need to be Light Assault. It's the only class with a jetpack.
You can scale pretty much any wall that is in an angle below 90 degrees. Otherwise you are going to need some sort of ledges or poles where you can wait until your jetpack recharges.
Basically you just have to hold W and space bar to climb. At some point the jetpack fuel will run out, and when that happens, just walk forward and keep jumping. When it has recharged fully, keep flying. If this is impossible, wait until it recharges a little and try to get forward (and up) with short bursts of jetpack thrust.
Where?
Everywhere! Indar is the best map for it though. It offers the best elevation differences with its mountains.
When?
When the situation calls for it. If you think you can flank an enemy from above, try to do that. This is also good when capturing bigger bases, or an airdock. There are two conventionaly methods to get to an airdock: by an aircraft or by using a jump pad. Using a jetpack is a good alternative if you are trying to be sneaky. Speaking of sneakiness, try to get a sound suppressor for the Light Assault's gun. I did and it sounds like it should work pretty well.
Where have you climbed?
I'll tell you where have I climbed. On mountains of course, but also on top of an antenna, on top of some buildings, and last but not least, on top of one of those three things that create the force field around a warpgate!

Happy climbing!
I do not think I will forget any time soon the cliff climb we did as a group. It took us a long time to get to the top. Was fun.

Yesterday I had a quite a climb with my friend. Since we had reached the highest and coolest places on Indar and Amerish, we went to Esamir, although I knew it doesn't have much elevation. Boy was I wrong! It doesn't have high hills or mountains, but it does have those purple shards rising from the ground, many of them over a hundred meters tall. We faced the climbing challenge of our lives and eventually got to the top of two shard groups. It's a nearly vertical climb with not many places to set your foot on. If you fall down, you'll have to start again from the bottom. About 150 metes high.
I've also found some really nice jumps in Indar. With a Nitro upgrded with nitros it's a lot of fun to drive off those high cliffs. Just remember to jump off before you hit the ground, and use your jetpack.
All this climbing experience could become useful when taking bases.

Surprised you were able to make it up those huge purple shards rising from the ground.

Nothing's impossible, unless you give up. Us Finns don't know how to do that.

It was fun when four of us climbed to the summit at the highest point on the map. Quite rewarding looking at the view as well Afterwards, I thought about the reaction of an enemy pilot flying past and seeing four NC soldiers huddled on a mountain peak in the middle of nowhere. Probably........ WTF

We were just minding our own business, harming no one. Except the guy who tried to shoot me.
I had a nice experience with my friend when we were trying to find some cool place to visit after we had climbed the most impossible structures. We ended up going to some kind of a huge crater that was held by the enemy. Also most of the territory around it was held by the hostiles. There we were, just two travellers sight-seeing and going past enemy zones. We saw a bridge going from one side of the crater to the other. Beneath it were some conviniently places support structures (clearly designed for pedestrian traffic) which we used to avoid attention. And missile fire from an enemy aircraft. Halfway there we met with two other NC guys. One of them was an infiltrator asking for ammo. Unfortunately we were both Ligh Assaults so we couldn't help him. Then both groups moved on.
We did try to capture some capture points and other stuff, but that moment under the bridge was like from a movie where some rebels just casually meet under a bridge (a hundred metres above ground, mind you) asking for supplies, never meeting each other again. What was the story of the other rebels? Were they sight-seeing too? Truly memorable.
There was another tiny, yet really cool moment under that bridge. I noticed a capture point right above us, but there were no stairs leading to it. We weren't sure if our jetpacks would get us up there or not. We took the risk and made it.
There actually is one place we have tried to conquer but have failed. In a bio lab (or was it something else? it had a force field around it, teleporters leading to it and two helipads), in the middle of it is a generator. Around it is a large structure leading to the top. Unfortunately it seems to be impossible to climb on to the very top. My friend got higher than I did. Then I got a splendid idea; why not try to fly to the top? As you can imagine, it is quite tricky to try and get a plane through that tiny hole right in front of the helipad and fly inside a confined space. I got it through but the plane got jammed between the shield and a building. Soon an enemy, capturing the bio lab with some others, destroyed my plane and my attempt to reach the top.
If you go to my Steam page, you should be able to find screenshots of climbing. Lots of them. If you have a challenge for me, do present it.

Last night I discovered something unusual while running away after overloading a shield generator. A small cavern! At first I thought there was no way I could fit through the opening, but I did and found myself in a little cave. It's quite well hidden and only a curious idiot like I would go in there. I tried to get out for five minutes without any results. I was almost going to admit I had been defeated. But I kept going and finally got out. The power of the jetpack and Finnish sisu were with me!
It's in Amerish, N11 on the map. Andy didn't want to check it out, and I can only assume that he'll regret it for the rest of his life. It's on the opposite end of the map if you look from the NC warpgate. We were holding almost the entire map, which made it possible to get there.

Had a great night Sunday as part of Al's Elite Light Assault Covert Infiltration Squad. He even had me jet packing up some pretty high peaks........all in the name of infiltration of course After my poor effort at assaulting a Bio Lab and falling to my death with an empty jet pack, you'll be glad to hear I spent 150 certs on the level 5 pack ! I think we need to think about flash arresters for night missions.

I only have a level 4 jetpack. Mostly it's enough. I do have a sound suppressor on the default light assault gun, but I have also considered a flash suppressor. I'll try to test it in the virtual reality training zone to see which is better.
