Not sure about W8, I think it's more for touch UI's. That's quite a budget you have there Maybe I'm just a bit tight, but I would be careful on paying a lot of money for tech your not going to use now. W7 running BF3 uses about 3.5 Gb of ram. Personally I would get 8 Gb and then add the other 8 Gb in about 18 months when your PC might have cause to use it. Plus it will probably be half the price it is now. Check out gpu comparison reviews, when you get near to the top of the range your often paying a lot of money for a handful frames/second more. Checkout MB specs, do you need/want SLI if your not going to use it. I7 ? Not sure that any current games benefit from hyper threading. On the comparison site below comparing i7 3770k and i5 3570k in gaming the worse case for the i5 was 84.7 f/s to 93.8 f/s yet the i7 is nearly a £100 more ! But if your video encoding and other such things that use hyper threading then the i7 excels. Incidentally my i5 3570k overclocks to 4.3 Ghz with the asus auto overclock and after market cooler, but I currently run it at stock. With the other guys on Asus. This is a great site for comparing kit. www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2 Just be aware it's easy to waste money chasing top specs, but if you can afford it go for it ....... I'm sure Spartan could write a whole separate thread on the value of AMD based gaming rigs ! Are you building it yourself ?

Firstly thanks to you all for your feedback!
The Specs on this post are not up to date, and for the reasons above have been changed, plus i wanted to upgrade my monitor so i cut the budget of the rig! I will get windows 7 on your advice... but which version of it would you say is best! Hopefully it will be built sometime in February then i will be able to play games smoothly!

7 Pro has the best backwards compatability for software. Home premium would be the next best.

My current computer is on verge of death! The graphics card is not well, it keeps blue screening my pc and I often get white lines breaking up my picture! Thanks Taz for your assistance and I hope it will struggle on for another month then ill hopefully have my new PC! If it dies I won't be gaming for a while!

Lambourne, do you buy pre-made computers or do you buy the parts and build it yourself? If you don't build it yourself, you should really think about it. It makes it easier to upgrade, it makes it easier to know what's going on, and if something goes out on it, you don't have to worry about warranties or proprietary bullshit, you can just replace the bad hardware. Only issue is, if you don't know a lot about the hardware and compatibility, then you can easily screw up your build. If you'd like, you can shoot me an email with your budget and what you need the computer to do, and I can give you some advice on what to get and I can help walk you through getting it up and running.

CAUTION! Thread hijack below! Not to discredit your ability to build a computer, but ... Phoenix? 10 years? ... NOOB! I've been tinkering with computers since i386 days and have had the pleasure of dealing with over $20,000 worth of computer parts in the last 10 years without any failures on my part. I WIN! lol Damn! That Taz guy is a jerk!

In an attempt to bring this thread back on topic my budget is £1000 which I believe is around $1500! also is liquid cooling worth it? or will fans do the job? so suggestions on parts with that budget in mind would be helpful, I want it to be able to run upcoming games well!

My budget is £1000 which I believe is around $1500! also is liquid cooling worth it? or will fans do the job? With £1000 to spend you will be kicking ass for a good few years ;D I would go with the liquid cooling (Corsair) purely because it will give you loads more room in your case. My Noctua air cooler literally fills my case even blocking card slots Remember liquid also has fans on the rad which is usually mounted in the top of modern cases.
