I noticed that we don't have a thread about CoH yet, so I made one. About a week ago some lucky Spartans (me included) were given a surprise free gift, if they showed up at the meeting. And that gift was a copy of Company of Heroes on PC! On this thread we could talk about it, share our strategies and help each other out to get started. As of now, the game hasn't arrived at least here. But most of them have already been sent. There is a mod for it called Modern Combat. It was voted to be the second best upcoming mod of the year 2011. www.moddb.com/events/2011-mod-of-the-year-awards/features/moty-players-choice-upcomingIt seems to be a really good mod, and Spartan0536 has worked on it. Congratulations for the second place! Additional information: it was the "Modern Warfare" mod to the game World in Conflict that Spartan is working on. My bad, mixed them up. I tried the demo of CoH previously this year. It was pretty hectic and not much made sense to me, but it was probably caused by the fact that I've never played a real-time strategy game before. As far as I remember, the demo didn't include a manual, which would have helped a bit. Still, I managed to beat both demo levels. The other one was the Normandy landing level and the other one was in a city where I had to defend against German (I think) infantry and tanks. After a few long minutes the backup arrived in the form of tanks, but that didn't make it an insta-win for me. I still had to fight for victory. I liked the demo, and if the full game is anything like that, I will probably like it too. Merry Christmas Spartans! =SWF= Members with Company of Heroes=SWF=McGuirk =SWF=sfscriv =SWF=pershainovitsh =SWF=JDglockman =SWF=Tazimafied =SWF=Back_To_The_Fight =SWF=ironside =SWF=Rache

There is a thread in the other forum. I will move the content of that thread when the operational window opens. Metacritic gives it a 93 out of 100 www.metacritic.com/game/pc/company-of-heroesEurogamer - 100 G4 TV ..... - 100 GameSpy . - 100 PC Gamer . - 96 IGN ......... - 94 Strategy Informer - 92 Game Spot - 90 24 APR 2011 25 MAY 2011 Spartan0536 is working on a "World in Conflict" mod. I tried the demo when it first came out and did not like the game. Once you get into it, CoH is very good.

Spartan0536 is working on a "World in Conflict" mod. Oh darn, I knew I would mix them up at some point. I even checked the official mod page to see if there was a Spartan there, and there was: moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com/staff...Although it was under the "inactive" category. They are both mods for real-time strategy games, and both mods start with the word "modern", and I don't know much about either so don't get angry at me. I'll modify the main post a bit.

I have just completed patching CoH and have gained the ability to play online. I have yet to figure out how the multiplayer works but will post on that as soon as I do. There are a total of 13 files needed to download and install to patch your copy of CoH. They can be found on FilePlanet, FileFront or as torrents on the Relic page here. The easiest way to download is from the Relic page and fileplanet would come in a close second due to the easy to follow layouts. The only files needed are: 1.00-1.40 1.40-2.101 2.101-2.201 1.201-2.202 2.201-2.300 2.300-2.301 2.301-2.400 2.400-2.500 2.500-2.501 2.501-2.502 2.502-2.600 2.600-2.601 2.601-2.602 There are others in the mix so make sure you get the right ones. After patching you will have to create a new shortcut as well because it changes the .exe file for each patch. To make it even easier I will be sending the torrents to Scriv via email which he can distribute to whoever wants them.

Me again.
Looks like online play is fairly simple. You can join others games or create one of your own. You can lock your room so only people you know can join as well. I can't wait to get online with some felow Spartans and battle it out. It looks like this will be a lot of fun.

Taz, Thanks for all the work on getting the Company of Heroes games operational. It's appreciated. I would recommend serveral single player maps before trying multiplayer so you can get used to the game.
Taz, I received the torrent files via email. What would you recommend I do with them?

Taz, I received the torrent files via email. What would you recommend I do with them? I sent them to you so you could distribute them to anyone who wants them via clan email or use them yourself if you need them. You will need a torrent downloader to use them of course.

Received my copy, thanks a lot. I hope you don't mind Scriv, I passed it to ironside as he cannot run BC2 or BF3 yet. He is exited about trying a new game.

I finally installed it and played the first two missions. What a game! So far I've rushed through Ohama Beach and set up an ambush as a paratrooper company on a road some kilometres away from the beach. It's actually pretty realistic: the vehicles can be damaged to individual parts (engine, tracks...) and the environment is destructible. I thought I didn't like real-time strategy, but seems that I was wrong.
... But 13 patches? What exactly do they do? Can I keep my savegames after patching? Are they big in filesize?

aL, I am glad you are enjoying the game. I too was pleasantly surprised with CoH gameplay. As for the patches, you will have to ask Taz or another member. I have not patched yet.

I gave up patching it after my first attempt and did a fresh install and just started the game from scratch. I am playing it on normal, but am finding no matter how bad my strategy is, I am still managing to complete each mission I have completely screwed up setting defence lines and left my engineers pottering on a bridge as the german horde advance and yet have still managed to turn battles around. I will probably play it again from the start once I get my skill level up...... I have had taken a whole troop of 16 infantry and watched them get slaughtered in a machine gun cross frie, but am slowly figuring it out There is so much going on at the moment that I don't get much time to game, bu tthis is a nice game to play if I have a spare half an hour! thanks Scriv and wobbly! I will relay any funny stories!

If you patch the game we can have someone host a game and all be able to play together online.
Patching the game should not make you loose any saved games or settings. As long as you do the right patches in the right order you shouldn't have any problems.
Ironside, were you successful patching this time?

I didn't do it as torrents, tried the other way and got to about 2.2.3 and then couldn't find the next one. Trouble was the game was having a fit and wasn't interested in loading so I re-installed and didn't try again to patch. To be honest, I wouldn't want to venture online until I am a little more competent!
