A number of folks are trying the WarZ beta.
Let's hear what you think about WarZ.

It is actually in alpha stage now, and is buggy as all hell, as expected. Here is a compiled list of many of the current bugs/gameplay errors: forums.thewarz.com/showthread.php?22558-Compilation-of-Alpha-BugsUltimately I see this game as sort of a kiddie version of DayZ, especially once both games have been completed in their standalone versions. The War Z has some serious potential, however I believe it will end up being more for the CoD player than the 'hardcore simulation' player. Its strengths: Inventory system, more types of loot/weapons, weapon attachments/customization, character customization, better nighttime play, better lighting/realtime shadows, possibly faster, more action-based gameplay than DayZ. That's all I can think of for now. On a separate note, I am reinstalling DayZ again, and will likely be back to playing it soon while I wait for both games to get to a more permanent version.

Most of the crash bugs have been worked out, I have yet to crash now in over 40 hours of play time, finding a server is also extremely easy now that they added a filter system. Its still in ALPHA but it plays like a beta so the improvements are rolling and they do listen to the active community. RepCommando, Iwazzio, Tiber, Nightshade, Wheeler, and myself play WarZ daily and we are getting better and better gear. This game right now does resemble COD Black Ops II trailer (see below) in gameplay mechanics (its a death match / team deathmatch) which in effect is like ArmA II. Its definitely not a very fast paced game but is a bit faster than DayZ.
Only time will tell who has done the best work, I think WarZ has awesome potential and while I will not be buying the standalone version of DayZ I will be buying ArmAIII.
The current state of WarZ's gameplay mechanics(not exact):

I kinda stopped playing for the moment. I've been really into Planetside 2, but mostly I've been out of the video game mood for a while. It comes and goes, and I'm expecting it to come back soon.
One reason I stopped playing WarZ for a bit was because of the higher percentage of bandits... it seems like everyone just wants to kill on sight, and normally I get killed before I even see the other player. I did manage to find an M4 and an M16, but I'm too scared of losing them to bring them out. Also, it seems like the weapon damage is way too high... nearly every time I get shot at, it's a one shot kill, and I have no chance of fighting back, even if I run for cover.
I would like to play with Spartans at some point though, and I agree that the game runs at a faster pace than DayZ.
