This is an awesome game.
It has been in development for a very short time (due to being made for the 7 day FPS competition), has bocky Minecraft-style grpahics and some bugs but it's one of the coolest games I've ever played.
Sub Rosa is loosely based on the Arma mission called Dark Business. There are three teams: the gold one, the blue one and the grey one. They have proper names but I forgot them. There are two game modes: Acquisition, where you have to get a disc from an AI-controlled man driving a limo. The problem is, everyone else is trying to do the same.
The more interesting game mode is Transaction. One team is given the disc, while randomly one or both of the other teams will have money to buy it. Money comes in the form of cash, which can be placed in a briefcase. The disc can also be placed in a briefcase.
But how to make a deal? If you have the money, contact the team who has the disc and arrange a place for meeting (there are three chat channels). Mostly you want to bring all the money you have for the trade. Just like in movies, you should agree not to have your weapons (pistols, SMG's, rifles) out and show the goods in the briefcase by opening it. Then both sides close the case, drop it on the ground and take the other case for themselves. If all goes well, no bullets will be fired and everyone leaves alive. Of course, this is not always the case. You could just try to kill everyone and have everything for yourself. And then there's the other team who wasn't a part of the transaction. They will surely be hunting both of you.
If your team has the disc and both of the other teams have money, it's going to be tricky. Both of them want to arrange a meeting, but obviously you can't give the disc to both of them. Obviously you could tell the other team to meet us at the parking garage D and meet the other one in B.
The perfect transaction
I actually did that in one of the best rounds I've had. We had the disc and I was driving one of our two cars. We arranged a meeting with the grey team in B and told the blue ones to go to D. Somewhere around the real transaction (which went perfectly and cleanly) the blue team was getting angry. Why weren't we at D? We told them I had accidentially driven us to C and we're coming right away. While driving back to the home building I told the grey team that the blue ones are waiting at D. I don't know what happened with them. It was just perfect. Not one of us got even shot at. Needless to say, the blues didn't like us after that. But we forgive and forget.
Betrayal
One round two of my teammates killed me and another friendly right at the beginning. (they lost money by teamkilling but I guess they thought it'd be worth it) The blue and the grey team had a shootout and the traitors walked right in and finished most of them. I was an observer so I could switch to anyone's point of view. One blue guy didn't have a gun (though I saw one right next to him. Maybe it was empty?) so he took a car and tried to run over the guy who betrayed us. But he missed and got shot. The traitors won and were the only ones alive at the end of the round.
All kinds of stuff happened in the two hours I played it today. Yesterday it was all shooting, which I didn't like. Each round lasts about five minutes. I gave a weapon to my traitor in another round (he didn't have one and I had two) and surprisingly didn't shoot me. We had a really good deal, all clean, but someone took our car and drove away. I think we got shot after that by some people. We've been ambushed at our own HQ and we've had ambushes at their HQ's. It's very intense to watch as an observer when the last living teammate is driving right into an ambush.
Once the grey team tried to pull out the "perfect transaction" trick with us. Quickly we knew something was wrong when they didn't show up so we went to their HQ to ambush them. I'm not sure if we killed them all or did we get wiped out.
The end
It's still in a demo phase, but I hope we could try it out together with a small group. In-game you can only chat or use a phone to call other teams while using VoIP that generally doesn't work very well. So using TS would be really good.
