The DayZ team have been revealing some of the games stats:

- The most frequently destroyed vehicle is the Ikarus (the bus), closely followed by the tractor, and the bicycle.

- Most players die on the coast, the main cities (especially Stary), and the Northwest main airfield.

- 2.6% of all current survivors have NVGs

- 30,000 players have either a Coke or Pepsi in their packs.

- As of 13 JUN 2012, the developers removed empty tents from servers. There were 21,952 total tents and there were 5,747 tents where the owner was still alive.

- 9.9% of the vehicles have been destroyed at any given time.

I think it's not so much the size, as the rapid growth (much more than ArmA2 on it's release), and its method of growth, that has surprised everyone.

I also think that many people overestimate the quantity of sales that a game usually makes. A very small number of games are responsible for most sales. Having your game sell over 500,000 copies in it's lifetime is a significant achievement for ANY game studio. A large number of the unique ID's are new copies, somewhere in the region of 170,000 or so. And that's been in just about two months. Also, the fact the game is very old (relatively speaking) and is outselling new releases - people want to know why.

We're registering between 10,000 to 12,000 new player keys a day. So either there are heaps of ArmA players who have been hibernating, or sales are very high and a verification of that would be to check if ArmA2:CO is still on top at steam.
