A simple question. What sinlge-player game do you like the most?
While there are many good single-player games like Max Payne, Alan Wake, (both made by Remedy) Deus Ex, it's not one of those. Even if games like Ghost Recon and any of the Hitman games have an enormous amount of replay value due to the open level design and the ability to complete objectives in any order, it's not one of those either. As some of you have guessed it, my favourite single-player game is Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
It doesn't have very open levels, though they are not linear corridors either. But the gameplay is excellent, the voice of Sam Fisher, played by Michael Ironside, is perfect for the role, the dialogue between Fisher and his superior, Lambert is very good and funny, the AI is pretty good, and most of all, it's a one of a kind -game. I don't think anyone could point out a game that would be similiar to it. Sure, there is another stealth series called Thief, but I don't like the medieval theme, especially with the magic elements. I like the high tech gadgets you are given in SC:CT, I like the ability to sneak past enemies, I like the ability to interrogate almost every guard, (with funny dialogue) I like the ability to climb to higher places and do all kinds of acrobatic moves, I like the jammer on the pistol, (in previous SC games, you had to shoot lights. Isn't it a bit suspicious to see a shot light all of the sudden? Now the light will flicker and shut down for a dew seconds, letting you slip under it) I like the whole game. I've played it probably for over a hundred hours, I've had hundreds of saves on many bizarre and funny spots, I had so many saves that the game stopped showing them. Thankfully by deleting most of them the saviing works again.
Useless information about the other modes in my choice
It also has a multiplayer mode called Spies vs Mercenaries, where the unarmed spies are controlled like in the SP, from 3rd person view, and the armed mercs from a 1st person view. I never played online, but judging by the tutorial the controls felt weird. Should be fun to play, but Ubisoft has closed their servers. Yet there is another hope: Project Stealth, an indie game trying to reproduce the same experience.
Then there's the co-op, which should be pretty much exactly like the SP, which is the reason I've persuaded Scriv into getting a copy of SC:CT. I've never played the co-op, so I'm pretty static about playing it with Scriv, just as I should
