Anybody interested in forming a hunting party and doing some DayZ? I tried to venture out alone but it clearly cries out for a group dynamic. Taz, I saw you had already given it a try alone like me and so has Spartan. Let's all three of us get in together and see how long we can survive. Scriv, Rache or any of you other folks that already own Arma2OA or Arma2CO are welcome to download and install the mod and join us. The bigger the group the better chance we'll have.

I don't own Arma 2 but just for this mod I have to buy it at some point. Anyway, if you have downloaded the dayz_auto_updater.exe from the US mirror it will/may have a virus or some other malicious software in it. The developer (who is actually a dev of Arma 2) didn't place it in there, it was a hacker who did it. They removed the link so no one could get the infected file. You should check the files with a virus scanner and if it doesn't find anything, follow the instructions given on the links given by RPS. I don't know if it has viruses if you downloaded it a month ago. The other mirrors should be clean. www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/06/11/infection-dayz-servers-hit-by-malicious-software/

Seems that you replied inside the quote from mcguirk's post. I was wondering where your reply was until I noticed it. But to answer your question: the atmosphere in the mod is something that has never been seen in a game before. You are a survivor of a zombie apocalypse and you have to eat and sleep. Zombies are not the only threat: you should also be very careful around other players, as they could kill you just to get your food or ammunition. You can of course try to team up with them. With someone on your side your chances at surviving are much better. Day Z is pretty much a zombie apocalypse simulator, it's like being in a zombie movie. And if you die, you're dead for good. So you have to be very careful whatever you are doing. As you can see, McGuirk is trying to form a party with taz and Spartan. Just like with any game, it's more fun to play together with friends, trying to get food and ammunition and maybe even find a car to drive. But to get the car drivable, you'll have to find some parts for it. Day Z is a sandbox game. You can do pretty much anything you could imagine someone would do in a zombie apocalypse. Maybe you'll hunt people with a rifle from a roof? Maybe you'll form an alliance with someone. Maybe you'll try to avoid everyone and just literally camp in the woods. Of course, being in an alpha stage of developing, it's nowhere near complete or perfect. In the future it will have more features, and the developer of the mod (who is also a dev of Arma 2) has been saying he could quite easily convert the mod for Arma 3 once it's released. Or that's what I've gathered about the mod. I don't have Arma 2 so I can't play it. One thing shows the popularity of the mod: Arma 2: Combined Operations, which is required for the mod, has been in the top 10 selled chart on Steam for weeks. Not bad for a game that was released three years ago. Short version: it's all about the experience and the atmosphere. Imagine being in a zombie movie. And I don't mean the guy who shoots a hundred zombies with a shotgun. And neither do I mean the guy who's trying to find a cure for the zombie virus. You are the guy who's just trying to survive, maybe with a couple of survivor friends. If you own Arma 2: CO (or Arma 2 and Arma 2: Operation Arrohead), go ahead and give it a try. You could also check other videos with zombies in them. Here's one with a familiar-sounding guy helping the guy who's using the sniper rifle. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgKIeKavdkI&feature=player_detailpage#t=78s
