Ten years in the past there was no shortage of tactical shooters. Red Storm Entertainment was making Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games. There was the SWAT series as well. They are still good, but are getting old. In the years between these games all the shooters have turned into Hollywood style action shooters. Even Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. The publishers just don't want the developers to make tactical games anymore.
...But thanks to Kickstarter, one tactical game has gotten enough attention and backers that the publishers might start getting interested. The game is called Takedown, and there certainly is an audience for a game like this: there were about 5500 backers who in total pledged 221 833$. The goal was 200 000$.
Takedown will be a tactical, slow-paced, realistic team-based shooter with co-op and competitive multiplayer modes. The developers have experience in tactical shooters, including developers of Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, World of Tanks and F.E.A.R. There will be mod tools.

There is another tactical FPS, but it hasn't gotten funding yet. It's called Ground Branch and it's a lot like Takedown. They are trying to get money through Kickstarter as well, but their goal is twice as high: 425 000$. They have only gotten 45 000$, a tenth of it, so if you are interested, support them with a couple of dollars.
Ground Branch is also developed by former R6 and GR devs. It will have mod tools just like Takedown. Some of the key features would be:
- No artificial weapon balancing.
- Tactical realism
- Non-linear game design
- Realistic health system (no regenerating health here)
- Wounding system (if you get shot in the arm, you are less accurate, get shot in the leg and you limp etc)
- Weapon customization
- Immediate access to all content

Then there's Intruder, which is in a very early development stage. Looks pretty good, but it's quite early to say anything yet. We'll have to wait and see.
