This portion of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault seemed so real when I played it long ago:
2:50 to 6:20. It actually felt like you were wondering through the woods.
This is not me or my video. Just an example of the realism I remembered. I did a lot more wondering. This guy knows exactly where the machine gun nests and other enemy positions are located. He even knows which weapon he wants to use ahead of time.
Start at 3:46 to 7:29 Great intro

Just played the Marine demo for Aliens vs Predator, released in 1999. Don't let the release year or the graphics fool you; this is the ultimate Aliens game. I haven't played the newer version, which was released in 2010 and bears the exact same name, but I've read the reception wasn't very good. There's also a new Aliens game in development, this time purely focusing on being a Marine against the Aliens without Predators or single player campaings for those beasts. It's called Aliens: Colonial Marines, and judging by the videos I've seen it will suck, making an Aliens game into a CoD clone is a huge mistake. I could take it if it was just another shooter, but an Aliens game can't be just a scripted corridor shooter. Aliens vs Predator 2000 is the scariest game I've played.
WARNING! It is highly recommended that you have seen Ridley Scott's "Alien" and James Cameron's "Aliens" movies before you play the game to maximize your enjoment level. And if you don't want to get spoiled about what can the aliens do and what are they like, don't read any further. And yet one more thing, don't bother wathing the other two Alien films, they are rubbish. WARNING ENDS!
But about the demo I played. I have played it before a few times. It's quite difficult, and the lack of saves makes it even harder. If you die, you'll start from the beginning. Sounds unfair, but does miracles to the atmosphere. You really are afraid of dying. The Gold edition of the game has in-game saving. Of course you don't have to use it, but I don't think many can resist the urge. This is the scariest game I've played. The line "use short controlled bursts" is forgotten very quickly. The running speed seems to be insanely fast, but you get used to it. There was a very annoying bug I encountered: sometimes I'd hear a very loud noise, and I think it happened near elevators. Using headphones, I had to hit escape and throw the headphones away. But it only happened two or three times.
Here are three stories of one playthrough of the demo.
I assume you know the basics about xenomorphs (aliens) so I won't explain anything here. If you are facing a single alien running towards you, no problem, you are armed with a plasma rifle with a grenade launcher. But if there's more and they're crawling along the walls at high speeds, then you've got a problem, especially if they bleed on you. You won't die immediately for touching their blood, but you will take damage. One of the greatest moments I had in the demo when I thought I was safe after killing multiple aliens and hiding behind a doorway, when suddenly I noticed there was acid dropping from the ceiling. I thought "Yeah it's normal, it's just acidohmygod there's a fricking alien on the ceiling bleeding on meaaaaaah" and started running backwards while shooting the alien that dropped down from the ceiling. That was an extremely intense experience and showed how fast a human can think. My thought process lasted maybe a second or two.
Then later on, in a part I never had reached before, I noticed an alien egg on a hallway. It looked like it was closed, so I just shot it with the plasma rifle. Then I proceeded to the hallway and after a turn to the right I noticed another egg, this time opened. The motion sensor was beeping and showing something moving near me! I quickly realized the plasma rifle wouldn't be of much use if there was a facehugger around and I'd die if I used the grenade launcher. So I switched to the flamethrower and burned the little creeper. If you've watched the films, you know how dangerous the facehuggers can be. In the game they can be even more dangerous than the fullt grown aliens: it's game over if one gets a hold on your face. And oh no, there are no quick-time mini games to remove it. (like the new Aliens: Colonial Marines will probably have)
As if that wasn't enough, I started hearing aliens screaming from the room I was in before. It had an elevator in the middle, but no walls directly around it. The aliens started jumping down one by one and I was having trouble staying alive. But I survived and continued onwards. I did something and my commander said (or the text on the screen, no voice acting in the game apparently) that I should get up ASAP. I found some elevators, fought some aliens and then I found a large tube containing a gun, but I already had it. It was actually a ventilation shaft judging by the large moving fan. There was a hole in front of it, and I thought it'd be intelligent to check it out. But I was dragged by the force of the mighty fan and got sliced to pieces. A second later I was back in the beginning. I didn't quit because I was frustrated, I quit because I thought I couldn't handle any more scary aliens for a while. I will try it again and some day I will beat it. And I will buy the full game.

Here's one. Floating helicopter. Not sure what happened. I was flying, then I jumped out, then the helicopter got stuck and I couldn't get back in.

A couple of great moments from Forgotten Hope, this time very shortly told: I was attacking a flag all on my own and crawling in a trench in a winter map when a couple of enemy tanks rolled in. One of the tanks drove right over me without noticing. I survived of course, laying down in the trench. That was a small but a great moment in my opinion.
Another one happened today when I was wreaking havoc with a Sturmgewehr 44 (which the AK-47 is based on and blah blah blah) when I noticed a perfect opportunity to knife an unsuspecting enemy who was laying down and watching the opposite direction. I took out the knife and sprinted towards him. But then I realized he had white trousers. Which meant he was a German and friendly. Of course there were other things like a certain type of a hat and a German gun that you can look for when trying to distinguish between an American and a German in one of the winter maps. Anyway, it was a good thing I didn't shoot him when I first noticed him.
