Got it for the Xbox 360. The release day was today here in Finland.
After about 6 hours of playing Forgotten Hope in the past two days, with lots of vehicles, big maps, good flag distances, voice chat with co-operating Germans and Brits and lots of teamwork, BF3 didn't feel as good.
First I played Davana Peak on Conquest. Three flags, with only a short distance between them. In the tunnel, in the middle of the map with one flag inside it, I repeatedly got blinded by flashlights and laser pointers. And outside I was blinded by the sun. After that the map rotation took us to Noshahr Canals, which wasn't a good map either.
Then I tried to get to other maps and modes. I was desperately trying to get to Davana Peak Rush to do the epic base jump, but every time I found a server with space for another player, it lost connection to the server. I also tried to get to Kharg Island conquest and Rush with similiar results. And Caspian Border and Op Firestorm. I guess there is something wrong with EA's servers. At some point I was happy when it loaded Caspian Border, and I even got to play, but then I was wondering: "Where are the flags? Or the M-Coms?" Then I realised: I was in Team Deathmatch. After dying and waiting to get to the spawn screen, I quickly fled away. I don't get how did I even have a T-Deathmatch game on the server browser (yay! a server browser! It worked decently), I had filtered it to Rush and Conquest only.
After a while I got to Tehran highway, both Rush and Conquest. It was just death and bullets everywhere. And I got shot to the back. And again, and again.
Pros: - server broswer - fire rate selector - the knifing animation - the ability to disable a vehicle - the crawling animation - the mantling animation - you can see your legs
Cons: - small player amount - short distances between flags - small maps - everything blinding me - no commo rose, and I don't think consoles will ever get it.
After today's four-hour play of Forgotten Hope with a squad almost full of VOIPing players (unfortunately that squad was half of the team, the total number of players including the enemies was 20. There's not much players during weekdays. Still I had a very good time) and an extremely thrilling battle with excellent teamwork (I even called an airstrike multiple times! It's an awesome feeling when you're hiding from a tank, call the pilot to take it out, wait all sweaty and boom, it's gone), Battlefield 3 didn't feel right. It felt like Call of Duty.
Sadly, everyone is so amazed by the graphics and the sounds of BF3 that they forget what is important in Battlefield. Not only well designed maps, but also teamwork. I didn't think it was half as fun playing BF3 for about an hour today as it was fun playing FH for ten minutes. But it might be just the thing that I have my Xbox voice chat set so that I can do it only with friends. I can't stand the little kids screaming on Xbox Live. And maybe the experience would have been different if I had played with other Spartans, on other, better and bigger maps, and on PC. I will report later when I have tried the rest of the game properly, and possibly after some patches.

Don't forget to start adding your clanmates to your battlelog when you come up online. Expect a whole influx from the otherside of the pond today! Thus far link-up has been made with McBrag, Wobbly, and McGuirk. If you have a different BF3 name let us know. IE my old screen name in here is Ghstrdr060 but in BF3 and most other areas its GhostRider6.

Hurry up and get it done! Looking forward to fighting with you again now that you're back!
Got mine a couple weeks ago and have played with a few Spartans online.
