BF3 Main Battle Tanks

Hello again Spartans, I have been spending TONS of time on Caspian Border and mostly in MBT's. Scriv loves him some good tank combat and well so far I am having a total blast, very reminiscent of BF2 tank combat without the "extra" hit that allowed people to do extra damage with 1 shot. Shot placement is crucial just like in BF2 and I also have been using the new "Guided Shells", these guided shells are not shells at all in the BETA ( I cant say about the release version obviously), but rather like lock on TOW/Kornet missiles they are actaully ATGM's that are fired out of the main gun. You still get your HEAT rounds but you press #2 for the ATGM and if in range you get a manual lock on, or if someone has a laser designator and they designate a target you can lock on to that and fire as well. Neat trick I have been doing to tanks is I use the ATGM lockon first to get the first hit then I fire a HEAT immediately after causing 2x damage to the enemy, works well, but the Guided Shell replaces the Coaxial MG for the driver so there is a trade off. I personally think the primary shells shuld be more of a HEAT not a AP round and instead of guided shells we get APFSDS-T to kill armor and heli's FAST, well its back to blowing stuff up again, will be back later to report in on Thermal Optics in MBT's and hopefully I will get the Reactive Armor upgrade which is the final one and see how well it helps my MBT survive.

Update...

Just unlocked Infrared Vision for my MBT's, and its all White Hot IR there is NO HIDING from my tank.

Current MBT Setup:
Autoloader - Shortens Reload time by 1 second from 4 seconds to 3 seconds
Thermal Vision - IR White Hot vision selection (RMB) default to toggle on/off
LMG Coaxial - M240B/PKM Coax for your Main gun, really helpful against those pesky infantry

Thermal Vision - Explained Above
Reactive Armor - ERA panels to increase Tank Urban Survivability
Canister Shells - 1000 Tungsten Balls (000 Buck size) turning your main gun into a massive shotgun.

Well I managed to get the ERA Panels (Reactive Armor) before the system shut down the BETA. Reactive Armor actually changes the physical appearance of your tank not only by adding the ERA panels but by adding in extra hardened points by adding in sandbags and other metal addon components. The ERA panels themselves absorb 100% damage when hit but become full destroyed in the process. I'm not sure what will be changed from BETA to Release about tank upgrades but im looking forward to it.

The Commander CITV station that adds in the 3rd seat is cool, I was not able to unlock it in the BETA but I did manage to fin a youtube video of someone who did manage to get it. neat thing the CITV station is the LAST upgrade you unlock for MBT's and its a PERMANENT UPGRADE and does NOT take up an upgrade slot, once you get it its on. The CITV station is NOT armed but it does provide extremely fast panning almost like you are still infantry spinning around, and it also comes with standard vision and thermal White Hot Vision, just by spotting targets and getting the assists you also get points toward your tanking skills, someone with the CITV station is an asset to lots of people and it rewards well.

Canister shells are NASTY in the beta but seemed to be using the same amount of shotgun pellets that regular shotguns use, this may be a BETA thing and they were using that as a placeholder because in the description it says that its over 1000 tungsten balls that turn your tank gun into a shotgun, I think if they have not changed it in release that it should be 5x standard shotgun rounds just for balance but it gives it an edge, however I did manage to rack up TONS of kills including a few fellow Spartans that really don't like me being an enemy in a tank.

I'm in as long as Spartan is sporting more than just his "tank top" while being a TC... Sure he looks all buff from the waist up when he pops the hatch, but his crew's view aint very pretty! LOL
