Thanks, Taz, for tipping us off that the Beta has been released. Most of the current work the PR team has is sitting at around 80-90% complete, but is simply not ready to be included in this initial BETA release. With that said, a lot of content has been removed and in some cases placeholders have been implemented so that we can concentrate on the more important gameplay aspects of the mod. This initial release is a BETA, and therefore should NOT be considered a final product. It should also be noted that this is v0.1 of a brand new mod on a new game engine and should not be compared in anyway to the Project Reality: BF2 modification. The aim of this BETA release is for the PR Team to get quality feedback to ensure that we are progressing in the right direction with the PR:ARMA2 mod. You can download and install the mod. The easiest way is via a self-installer.exe. www.realitymod.com/downloads#arma2Please note that you must have ARMA 2: Combined Operations installed and be running the ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead v1.59 patch in-order to play the Project Reality: ARMA 2 mod. As with any BETA release, the quality of future releases now lies with you, the community, and the feedback you provide. As is normal with any Project Reality release, the development team will not take on any feedback for at least 2 weeks. This time period will allow players to adapt and fully understand the PR:ARMA2 gameplay concept before commenting. Therefore, the feedback forums will remain locked for the first 2 weeks.

Has anyone tried it yet? Think PR BF3 possible? wobbly and I were waiting for the non-beta to install the mod. I think it is highly unlikely the PR development team will try to mod BF3.

I have played the beta. Everything seems to be running smoothly so far and the graphics are great. Gameplay is much slower than PRBF2. Seting up forward outposts can be a chore dragging things around but you can place things wherever you want them. No more destroying assets because they are facing the wrong way. Loading supplys in the trucks has taken some getting used to since this is the first time I have played ArmA but is nice that you can pick and choose from a list of items. Say you need another 50cal at a post. Just load it up and take it there. Vehicles are a bit odd at best. Starts and stops are abrupt and terrain seriously affects the performance. I think they could use a little refinement. I havn't tried out any of the jets yet but have had a chance to fly a couple choppers. My only gripe for them is the gyro system really takes over flight. If you are moving faster than 3kts in a paticular direction your nose is going to point that direction and you can not deviate no mater how hard you push the rudder. All together I think it has been very well put together and can't wait to see the rest of you PR heads join me.

I think it is highly unlikely the PR development team will try to mod BF3. Why is that?lack of support from DICE? Or is ARMA a easier game to mod? The reason is Lack of Support from DICE. My impression is the Project Reality development team found it hard to work with DICE and a number of BF2 characteristics were hard-wired into the script. Meaning they could not be changed. I believe those two varibles pushed the PR team to the ArmA camp who were more user-friendly to modders and their game script is more open. DICE's vision of gaming has moved toward the casual gamer and the Bohemia Interactive (ArmA) is closer to the PR Team vision of team-oriented gameplay. DICE has had very poor relations with mod teams since the BF1942 Mod Desert Combat team (Trauma Studios) joined DICE for the development of Battlefield 2 (BF2) and then was let-go. I believe a significant part of BF2 success can be attributed to the Desert Combat folks. Trauma Studios later created Frontlines: Fuel of War which is has a very similar theme to BF2142. The studio has been renamed Kaos Studio and is part of THQ. The Homefront game was created by Kaos Studio. On a similar note, it is not in DICE's best interest to encourage the production of direct competitors to their product line by growing successful modders. EA/DICE is being very protective of the Frost Bite 2.0 engine. They are not allowing LAN support or Mod ability to protect their competitive advantage over other video game developers right now.
