What about little birds with either
1. Seating to insert troops (specialops)
2. Mini gun and or rockets
Kiowa two seater(maybe out of date)
1. Recon with radar to locate/kill armour and rockets 2 x hellfire or multi launch pod
It would be nice to have something different.

Make it so that if one seat switches the aircraft crashes. Make it so it takes 2 hits from a missle to kill a tank.

My thoughts described using U.S. equipment. Other forces would have something similar.
Little Bird – Pilot and 2-soldiers Blackhawk - Pilot, 2 door gunners, carries a full squad (what ever the size ends up being) Chinook – Pilot, HMMWV, and a fireteam (4 personnel) [sling load underneath] F-16 – Pilot {fighter} F-15E – Pilot and gunner {bomber} C-17 – Pilot, M-1 Main Battle Tank and crew [internal transport]

First, BF3 should have aircraft (transport, attack, helicopters, and jets). Having said that, aircraft are too powerful in BF2. There needs to be extra equipment to counter the devastating effect of air power. Perhaps MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense System [shoulder launched anti-air missile]), a special deployable flare for armored vehicles that whites-out aviator optics, and Anti-Air (AA) emplacement upgrades.
Game play for the majority of the players on a server would be very different, if there were not any attack helicopter and jets. Think about the BF2 map “Road to Jalalabad.” It makes a HUGE difference if there is not a good aircraft attack crew on the other team. When one attack aircraft crew is very good, it can make the game unplayable. This brings up the topic of server options. With BF2 there is Infantry Only (IO) and BC2 there is Hardcore, BF2 needed an option to remove the attack aircraft.
BF3 should have aircraft, but there should be greater counter measures and a server option to remove them.

Why, indeed, would anyone want to incorporate real-world modern military equipment into a Battlefield game? Why would someone want to add a C-17 aircraft equivalent or similar fixed-wing transport aircraft into the BF3 battle space?
First and foremost, the FUN factor. Second, this type of in-game asset would encourage an expansion of previous Battlefield series maps to larger maps enabling ground and aerial maneuver. Adding depth and width to the battle space would provide the DISTANCE needed to organize forces, communicate with other team mates, and encourage teamwork. Forces could move to and occupy battle positions and outflank an adversary. The constrictive maps found in Bad Company 2 could be opened up to expand the strategy and tactical aspects of game play.
Wouldn’t it be great to organize, execute, and reap the benefits of a combined airborne and air assault operation behind enemy lines. Not just 3 guys in a jeep, 3 Spec Ops parachuting from a helio, or a single tank that snuck through the friendly forward line, but an organized fighting force with firepower and survivability. Imagine this size enemy force infiltrating behind your forward lines:
C-17 loads and heavy drops (parachutes) an M1 tank and crew CH-47 Chinook sling loads a HMMWV and crew 2 UH-60 Blackhawks loaded with infantry 2 AH- 64 Apache gunships in support

What about being able to transport two pieces of Arty behind lines and cause untold havoc. While they wasted assets looking for said pieces an advance could be made on the front line. You only have to look at BFBC2 and see how people react when an mcon is activated. Everyone drops what they are doing so that they can disarm it. If more people realised this the attacking team could press home the attack by putting people in place to catch them re-spawning. Rather then having to fight your way from the attacking spawn every time.

... Originally posted on 25 SEP 2010 Let’s discuss server options. With BF2 there is Infantry Only (IO) and BFBC2 there is Hardcore. Whatever DICE comes up with for BF3, they could relatively easily to add more game modes. I am recommending three new game modes which are Jet mode, Helicopter mode, and No Attack Aircraft mode. The first two game modes for jets and helicopters would take the standard map and double its size. That means the outer areas would have to be populated with some sparse vegetation, canyons, roads, building and bridges. The numbers of players on the map/server would be dramatically reduced for these two modes with the cap for each team at 10 players and 20 for the match. This should facilitate the expansion of the maps for the aviation modes. The Jet mode. The standard team would have 1 bomber, 5 fighter jets, 3 AA armored vehicles and one commander. Of course shooting down the enemies aircraft is an important task, but the primary task is to try and infiltrate your bomber to the enemy’s rear area to bomb his runway. Each team would have only one bomber with the ability to crater the enemy runway. In this recommended version of BF3, all aircraft would be required to land to regain health and reload ordinance. With the runway cratered, now the whole friendly team is in danger of not being able to replenish health or running out of ammo. Every player on the team has the ability to operate the one heavy piece of equipment used to repair the runway. The runway repair vehicle is housed in a hardened bomb-proof shelter and is driven from the shelter to the damaged area to conduct repairs. So, shot down jet pilot, Anti-Air (AA) armored vehicle operator, or the commander could spawn-in or move to the repair vehicle shelter to conduct the needed repairs. The repair vehicle would only be used if their runway was damaged and would be operated by one of the existing 10 players on the team. The three AA armored vehicles could push forward to support their teams plan or hang back to protect the runway. They could operate dispersed or in close proximity depending the team’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The commander would develop the team plan, lead the team’s actions, and provide support with his commander assets. In the jet mode, the commander would be untouchable in an underground facility. In the helicopter mode, the commander would be in a mobile command post. He would drive a small four-wheeled vehicle somewhere to hide. His armor damage acceptance should be similar to a tank and his firepower should be a bit more than the gun jeeps (e.g. FAV) in BF2 intended for defensive purposes only. He would be enclosed within the vehicle even when using the defensive weapon system. Helicopter mode. The standard team would have 6 attack helicopters, 3 AA armored vehicles and one mobile command post. The attack helicopters would be sneaking, masking and unmasking (popping up and down), and not shooting through the skies like a dart similar to their jet brothers. Primary mission would be to find and destroy the enemy commander's mobile command post. The Jet and Helicopter modes would place emphasis on aerial combat, but keep a small contingent on the ground for some ground AA game play. No Attack Aircraft Mode. The attack aircraft are too powerful in BF2 and there needed to be an option to remove the attack aircraft. Game play for the majority of the players on a server would be very different, if there were not any attack helicopter and jets. Think about the BF2 maps “Road to Jalalabad” or the most popular map in BF2 “Strike at Karkand” which are without any aircraft. On servers with aircraft, it makes a HUGE difference if there is a good aircraft attack crew on the other team. When one attack aircraft crew is very good, it can make the game unplayable. For the normal game mode, there needs to be extra equipment to counter the devastating effect of air power. Perhaps MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense System [shoulder launched anti-air missile]), a special deployable flare for armored vehicles that whites-out aviator optics, and Anti-Air (AA) emplacement upgrades. BF3 should have attack aircraft, but there should be greater counter measures and a server option to remove them. .

I think BF2's Road Rage has got the balance about right. The two bombers per side are extremely powerful IF left un-challenged. The difference being there are also two AA vehicles per side. With these and similar skilled enemy pilots it becomes damn hard to line up on targets.
Zatar Wetlands has two fighters per side. The main job for pilots is to eliminate the enemy fighter threat. So ideally this turns into a dogfight, leaving the ground force alone.
If these aircraft are left unchallenged (or one guy is very skilled) then they will be overly powerful. But overall (after putting in a lot of jet time) I don’t think they are. I like the idea of runway bomb damage and the repair method; it would increase the importance of defending the airport. Perhaps the runway could be included as one of the Commander's assets Craters appearing anywhere on the map would be great for cover.
A good idea, I think, would be to use a C-130 (or chopper) as a mobile spawn point for all the team. This is used in 2142 to good effect by transport choppers. These can be used as spawn points for not just squad members but everyone. So with a good pilot this raises the importance of transport.
As for server options, I am hoping for the following:
Vehicles plus all aircraft Vehicles with transport choppers only Infantry only
One thing that annoys me in BF2 is the inability to filter for vehicle servers. You can filter for ALL or I/O servers, so for vehicles you have to trawl through mainly I/O to find them.

The original version of this post was destroyed when the EA UK Forum was shut down by DICE. Aircraft dominated BF2. They were over powered. Just like artillery and other high casualty causing weapon systems. They just needed to be seen less during a match. A lot of pilots and flight simulator flyers like to practice their take-offs and landings. What I would be a nice addition to the Battlefield series would be the requirement to repair and rearm on the ground for jets. The aircraft would have to land and quickly taxi to a re-arming pad which would be in a covered position to protect it from enemy bombing runs.

I think there are features that can be put in place to reduce the body count caused by aircraft: Jets - Have to land and pause over sheltered maintenance pads to recover health and rearm - Enemy can drop bomb on the air strip to disrupt landings and take-offs - Dropped bombs have to hit the tank to destroy it if the tank is at 100% health
Helicopters - Have to land and pause on a heliopad to recover health and rearm - Enemy can damage the heliopad to disrupt recovery of health and rearming - Transport mini-guns don't damage tanks and APCs - TV missile have to hit the tank to get 80% damage on a tank
Aircraft in general - Stationary Anti-aircraft emplacements are positioned by players rather than being located at fixed locations - Mobile and Stationary anti-aircraft can direct fire the missile by pressing the left mouse button and activate the seeking/warning tone for the pilot by pressing the right mouse button. The pilot has less time to react to a tone and deploy his flares. If the missile strikes the aircraft, it is a one hit kill.
Dismounted Anti-air - Four snipers on your team have a limited number of should fired missiles. This system would not have the two-mouse button system and would function similar to the BF3 system. If the missile strikes the aircraft, it disables the aircraft.
Tank Anti-air - Bigger smoke screen signature - Mobility more similar to BF2 instead of BF3 - 3rd seat has the targeting station ... Acquiring the aircraft can assist dismounted, stationary, and mobile anti-aircraft missiles ... Acquiring the ground vehicles can assist Javelin and stationary AT ... Deployable flare to white-out gunnery optics in aircraft
Heavy Machine Guns (HMG) - Damage caused by HMGs mounted on jeeps, stationary, top of tank causes similar damage as that of the HMG on the MEC FAV jeep in BF2
For the aircraft, there are: - Standard issue flares for all pilots on day one. Not the gunner and the pilot - Larger playable area of the map for aircraft - Bombs for two-player bombers - TV missiles for Attack helicopters

My thoughts UPDATED / described using U.S. equipment. Other forces would have something similar.
Fast Roping, sling loading, and heavy parachute drops available
Little Bird – Pilot and 4-soldiers (fast rope capable) Blackhawk - Pilot, 2 door gunners, carries a full 9-man squad (fast rope capable) Chinook – Pilot ... a fireteam (4 personnel) & HMMWV [sling loaded underneath] ... Or, two 9-man squads (fast rope capable) F-16 – Pilot {fighter} F-15E – Pilot and gunner {bomber} C-17 – Pilot ... M-1 Main Battle Tank and 3-man crew [internal transport] Heavy parachute drop ... three 9-man squads (parachute delivery)
