It can be a lot easier and faster if you use Xfire to join a BF2 gaming server. There are two likely possibilities:
A =SWF= player is already on a server and you want to join in or You are chatting with a =SWF= in Xfire and decide to begin a match
In the first possibility, click on the "players Xfire username." You should see the server information show up in the panel on the right. When you select their username, the gamepad looking icon on the bottom right will go from a light grey to a solid white.
Click the "gamepad icon" on the bottom of the Xfire main window or the "gamepad" on the bottom right of the extended panel on the right side.
The first time you do this, you will have to type in your Xfire username and password. The next time you use it, the username and password will already be present.
Now, click "OK." Your BF2 will launch and take you directly to the same BF2 server. (your BF2 screen and password have to be check marked remember for BF2 login ahead of time)
For the second possibility, wait to follow a =SWF= player/players to a server. You can go directly into the BF2 gaming server through the Xfire chat window. There is a blue tab mid-way down the right side.
Click the "blue tab" to extend the right panel showing the BF2 gaming server info.
Click the "gamepad" to join the server.
Make sure BF2 is not running when you do this. If it is running, this process is a lot less likely to function.
Keep in mind there is usually a TeamSpeak and/or Xfire blackout when loading the BF2 game and maps.
