I thought I would start a thread on useful ways to use your Certification Points. This is because I have wasted so many due to inexperience.
Spend 50c on Scout Radar for the Flash (buggy). Like a TUGS in BF3. All enemy close to the vehicle show up on the mini map for your allies. This is great for getting to a capture point quickly and giving away enemy positions. I used to 'deconstruct' the buggy once I reached my destination so as not to give my position away. Now it gives the enemy away. Great
A good investment ;D

wobbly told me to put the points toward the class or vehicle you will be using. If you are going to specialize in a class, I would throw everything at it. For example Engineer. Your main job is to repair, so the more you spend on the tool the better. Also, you resupply ammo so beef this up. Of all the personal armor options you can only choose one, so be careful. I have gone for flak resistance. wiki.planetside-universe.com/ps/CertificationsYou will want a sight for your weapon. This is tricky because there are a lot to choose from. It is trial and error but at 30c each it is not a disaster if you choose the wrong one. www.ign.com/wikis/planetside-2/New_Conglomerate_OpticsAs I play Engineer a lot and the weapon is more close quarters I went for the 2X Reflex, but am now using the 3.4X Laser. The next thing which is essential is the foregrip. At 100c you will worry if it is worth it, but it will be the best 100 you spend (maybe not for Sniper)

This is a good explanation on how to use those hard earned Cert points Remember you can only use one upgrade per slot. For example, you can unlock both Flak and Nanoweave armor but you will only be able to select one

I know the most fun way to use your certs. Spend 150 on Flash to unlock the nitro boost! You can almost fly with it if you hit the nitro key on a ramp. It can be used to get higher than you could with a non-upgraded Flash. Wobbly bought a goddamn machine gun for his Flash! I can only imagine how close would it be to a jet if he purchases nitros...
Another fun way to upgrade your kits is to upgrade the jetpack on the light assault. Be sure to upgrade the proper one, though. The "wrong" one turns the jetpack into a glider. The "right" one just gives you more fuel and the fuel regenerates faster. Especially on Indar (the desert map) it can be useful to climb the mountains and attack the enemies from where they least expect it.

Squad Leader - (can't believe you missed this one out Scriv) ;D Spawn Beacon Rally Point (colored smoke) Squad Objectives (attack/defend) Command Comm Channel Request Reinforcements If anyone intends to lead it is worth getting all the above as they are relatively cheap. I am getting by on beacon, rally point and objectives. General Infantry Use - For all classes I would go for the Flak Armor. This gives protection against explosions. You will survive an encounter with an Anti-Personnel Mine Medical or Restoration Kit Weapon sight and Foregrip Infiltrator - Hunter Cloaking Device Recon Detect Device (radar dart) Hacking Tool Anti Personnel Mine Light Assault - Jump Jet Smoke or Flash Grenades C4 Medic - Heal/Revive Tool Nano-Regen Device (heals infantry close to you) Healing Grenade Revive Grenade Engineer - Repair Tool Ammo Pack Sticky Grenades Tank Mines Heavy Assault - Mesh Generator (armor shield) Anti Vehicle Grenade C4 Max - Timer Reduction Charge Ability All vehicle weapons have - Zoom, Infrared or Thermal sights Ammo capacity, Mag size and Reload speed Flash - Auto Repair Scout Radar Cloaking Device High Speed Chassis Light Armor (Lightning) - Auto Repair Proximity Radar High Speed Chassis Heavy Armor (Vanguard) - Vanguard Shield Auto Repair High Speed Chassis Sunderer - Advanced Mobile Station (turns vehicle into spawn beacon) Vehicle Ammo Dispenser High Speed Chassis Fighter (Reaver) - Decoy Flares Auto repair High Speed Airframe Gunship (Liberator) - Same as above Transport (Galaxy) - Same as above It is very difficult to advise on infantry and vehicle upgrades as we all have different playing styles. The above suit me. I have spread my upgrades evenly across all kits and vehicles. However, I play mostly Engineer so I wish I had maxed out this kit before spending on others. I would advise to do the same. Also I have not spent much time flying so I'm not sure if these setups are the best. Flares are worth while though For a detailed list of all certs and their cost there is a link a few posts above ;D

I'll only focus on classes I mostly play as. That's medic and light assault.
If you like playing as a medic, upgrade your medic tool. The same applies to the engineer class and the repair tool. Medic has the ability to heal himself and anyone around by pressing F. Upgrade that too.
For the light assault class the most important ones are upgraded jump jets and C4. Since you have capabilities to be stealthy, consider buying a sound or a flash suppressor for your gun. I have a sound suppressor on the default LA gun. I doubt the flash suppressor would be useful in daytime, but it could be incredibly good in the night. But then the sound would be a problem... I also have 2x red dot sight on it.
Unfortunately the default gun for light assault is pretty horrible, at least when compared to the weapon the medic class uses. It's the AF-19 Mercenary, and it's also used by engineers. The range is also a problem. Beyond 75 meters (estimated) it's mostly a suicide to use. A few times I've been dreaming of carrying a sniper rifle to some high places only reachable with jet packs. This is why I'm considering to spend 250 certs for the AC-X11, which is supposed to be a long range carbine. With a good scope it should be exactly what I need. It's one of the cheapest weapons for LA. Now I only have to save about 100 certs for it... I'll report back when/if I buy it.
For the vehicles, of course you should get nitrous for the Flash. That way you can get away from enemies, climb steep cliffs and even to fly!
For all classes, I use the health-increasing upgrade (not flak armor, the other one).

Yesterday I tried out some weapons in the Virtual reality map. Compared to the default AF-something Mercenary, the Cyclone didn't feel as good. The rate of fire was fast and the magazine was small. At least with the stationary targets, I was struggling to get two kills with one magazine, which is pretty easy with the default gun. I also tried some other carbines and SMG's but they didn't feel very good.
Then I checked out some shotguns and revolvers. The revolver was just added, and kills with two headshots or with three body shots. It has a big version and a snub-nosed one. Both cost 1000 certs. That could be a good purchase. It's powerful, but I don't think it has a long range. I tried a pump-action shotgun and another one. The former was incredibly deadly on a range of <15m, a one shot kill on the chest, but on longer ranges, even at about 20m, it's pretty useless. The pellets spread out and don't hit the target very well. You can get slug rounds, which should increase the range and accuracy. You reload it one shell at a time, and you can interrupt the reloading by left-clicking, which makes the character shoot after he has pumped the weapon. The other shotgun I tested was semi-automatic, a bit better at a range, but required two shots on close range. I think both shotguns were 1000 certs too.
I could imagine a shotgun being good at defending/attacking a base, but only in close quarters.
Some other weapons I tested were marksman rifles for the infiltrator (you have to unlock the scope for it, when you unlock it only has iron sights) and the Jackhammer shotgun for the heavy assault. The crosshair was less that half of the size the pump-action shotgun had, and the fire rate was good. But I rarely play as HA so I'm not going to even consider buying it.

Yep, the Mercenary is the best carbine and can be used for both Light Assault and Engineer. I really like it. I love the Cyclone with extra ammo and compensator. With the high fire rate and accuracy it is a killer. The main advantage of the Cyclone is that it can be used with any Class. Not worth it for Heavy though. It is a good idea to have a Shotgun to fall back on. Like you say Al, they are extremely powerful at close range and can be used by all Classes. A good situation for choosing a Shotgun would be defending Generators as an infiltrator

I suppose I'll get the Cyclone just for the Infiltrator. For LA it isn't worth it in my opinion. if I start liking the class, I suppose I'll start upgrading the invicibility mode.
Maybe one should buy the revolver first if they want to use a shotgun. That way they have some way to attack beyond 15m. I forgot to mention that the pump shotgun has a very small "magazine" size. So you'll be constantly reloading, and having the most powerful handgun in the world as a backup could save your life. I don't really know if the shotgun is worth it. 1000 certs is a huge amount of...certs. Now I have about 450 saved. I just have to avoid buying anything before I get the Cyclone.

1000 Certs, I hope it works for you BTTF These are the attachments I use: Extended Mag Soft Point Ammo Compensator (fore grip is same slot as Ext Mag) Site of choice. I use the GD Reflex (2x). Remember it is short range. Try them out on the Training map before you spend Certs

OMG, a 1000 cert points ! It's like waking up with a hangover, looking in your wallet and thinking 'shit did I spend THAT much last night !' My mouse finger did hover over the BUY button for a few seconds before I clicked it. That's a lot of upgrades for everything spent on one SMG. Still you did promise me I would be a one man killing machine with the Cyclone wobbly.........you did promise that didn't you ?

'Cyclone'...... What is that.... I worry about people spending 1000 Certs on my recommendation because we all have different preferences. Don't do it Al !!!
