FUNC Industries Surface 1030 Review
By PC Gamer
Ask yourself: How badly do you want to win?
Having discovered that steroids did nothing more than fill out their shoulders and aggravate their acne, gamers have had to look elsewhere for a competitive edge. Behold the sUrface 1030, Func Industries’ competition mousing surface” for hardcore gamers.
The sUrface 1030 includes a reversible mousing surface that rests flush into a base component without any uncomfortable seams. The base component is a rigid “soft feel” plastic material (almost feels like suede when rubbed).
But having said that, the mousing surface is where the action is. One side of the sUrface 1030 has a smoother finish with just a hint of grain, and the other side is rougher with heavy grain and more traction. I found the rough side to be more conducive to precise work, like sniping in Battlefield 2 and removing the color from people’s eyes in Photoshop to make them look scarier. But the smooth side made my mouse feel as if it was hovering weightlessly over the pad. I practically got whiplash spinning around like a spaz.
Does a precision mousing surface make a difference? If you’re the office Solitaire type, probably not. But if you’re putting your ass on the line every night in multiplay, you want all the help you can get, and the sUface 1030 is the best mousing surface money can buy.
EDITORS' CHOICE - We're battening down the hatches and limiting our coveted Editors' Choice award to products that score a 90% or higher. It's not easy to get here, and darn near impossible to get near 100%. Products in this range come with our unqualified recommendation, an unreserved must-buy score.
